Some questions concerning drifting...

I have an 87 fc without lsd. The car has a tendancy to understeer. Any tips on how to get this thing sideways? Also which suspension setup would be ideal for this car as far as drifting is concerned?

you could swap the lsd from a gxl or another model with lsd ( except turbo II, it's fatter) as far as suspension, i would go with full coilovers from Kei Office at driftfactory.com or get the Tein HE, aka Drift Master or something like that...

The short answer:
New suspension bushings including DTSS eliminators.
Good front tires, cheap hard worn rear tires.
Practice - practice - practice (starting at low speeds with lots of spin out room).

Note the quick snap cut to the outside before the turn in to the first drift.

I went out to a drift day back in the day in my 87 sport (no lsd), i ended up breaking the diff mount that day, and for some reason i had about a gap where my cats met the exhaust manifold so the 6 ports didn't have enough backpressure to actuate. It was my first time drifting but hell even with a open diff I got it to drift.

I started out by just going towards the top of 1st, pushing in the clutch revving it up, turning the car and just poping out it and having the back end slide, countersteering and doing it again (small cone course, hey i was a newb), after I got comfortable I went out to the somewhat bigger 2nd gear course then i started just going towards the top of 2nd kicking the clutch right when i hit the corner (push it in really quick while your still floored) and it would break the tires and just sliding it and trying not to spin (had a ball trying that). So yes it's not hard to drift it with open diff, and hell i had all that other stuff on me. The next drift day I went to was in my 88 GTU (lsd equiped, no broken diff mount and exhaust was good) and I tore the hell out of my car until I killed my clutch, my teacher was impressed how much better I got since the first time. Start off stock then go from there, you don't really need anything to help you start off unless you want to.

Also If they have things like drift days where you live, go to them, its from 7-4 and theres 3 groups that drift, you get plenty of seat time and the teachers there are good, hell I had Alex Pfeiffer teaching me how to drift the 2nd time out.
