Purchase new window trim from a Mazda dealer. Goes for about $35 per side. The new trim is plastic and will not rust. Even if you repaint, it will rust again in a few years and odds are the rubber is rotting and will soon separate from the trim.

thnx aaron, i'm a little skeptical about local mazda dealer's willingness/ability to help, is this trim something i should expect them to be able to source from the 80's or have on hand?
i went to them recently looking for a rotary decal/keychain/some rotary shwag. and chuckled at and, basically, shown out so the "sales rep." could show of his rx8 to a 17 yr. old kid. (no offense to any minors with way more money than me)

It won't be in stock, but they can order it easily. Mine didn't even look twice when I ordered it a few years ago...5 years old and the new plastic parts still look perfect.
