So im tired of driving a girly car and...

I have decided to buy an import Turbo engine with the TII Transmission. the package averages around $1200 and seems like the cheapest way for me to go up on making a nice car without having to buy another one... (trust me.. ive looked high and low for a junker rx 7 2nd gen but nobody's got it close to me and those who do had outrageous prices) ... so i decided.. now all i need to know is what kind of problems i might run into.. the worst one ive read about is the transmission change.. Auto to Manual conversion seems to be a huge pain, but i dont mind workin on it... but what about the na engine? i read the faq and all i had to know is since this engine is auto transmission engine.. will it matter if manual transmission engine is installed? or does it mess with the harnesses and make it horribly impossible/ so so far the reason i call my car girly is because 1. its NA.. 2.. its Auto... thus replacing both of those together should be easier than one at a time right?

Don't think it will be that cheap... That "combo" you speak of is the ebay special. Generally, you will probably get a crap motor and will have to rebuild it. Not all the time, but people do get bad motors off those ebay specials. Good luck!

seriously i would consider either spending the money on your NA and fixing it up, making it reliale and fast, handle good ya know.... or look for a rrunning TII to start with.

These swaps are alot of work and can turn a perfectly good NA into a mess of TII parts that will never run again, then again if your cofident and have the ability and financial backing , then go for the swap. i did a auto to manual swap and it worked fine until i had to tach weld the crossmemeber adapter, which i had machined by a steel shop and Ohio, though you can make the adapter yourself out of channel iron.

There will be alot of trouble shooting, cutting wires, fixing this and that and overall pain in the *** to swap though.

FYI, There are much better ways to address the engine mounts when you do a manual swap. This is regarded as the "poor man's method". Either adapter brackets or welding in the actual mounting points from the donor body are preferred methods.

Personally, I made solid alloy adapter brackets to mount the crossmember. Acts just as the stock mounting points do.

I'll also warn you that the how-to for auto to manual swap is misleading if you're going to be using a S4 86-88 manual transmission as I did. The change in crossmember types is err challenging.

Some of this may not apply to TII..

Anywho, you can see it will be easier to just buy a TII and punt.

" those who do had outrageous prices"

What is your definition of outrageous prices?

My bet is you will have more money left in your pocket just paying their price than what you'll have after finishing what you're proposing. Been there, done that.
