so I was trying to push start my car
me and my buddy are restoring the rx7 and just got rid of the old viper alarm system so we where going to try and push start the car because it won't start! All interior is out of the car including the a/c so the two lines that come into the car for the heater (coolant lines) are disconected. Well we descide to push start it with my daily driver and needless to say the first time I poped the clutch coolant sprayed all over me, hahaha. Anyways besides that happening the car would not start!!!! The engine would sound like it would (put, put, put) but would not start. What would be the cause for this? Any help would be greatly apprectiated!!!

Did the old alarm have an ignition cutoff, if it did and you just took all the alarm wires off, the there will be a wire that isnt connected with the other part of that wire.
Just an idea

The car probably won't start if the battery is dead, push start or not. Why? If the ECU doesn't have power, it won't know when to pulse the injectors or fire the plugs. Try changing the battery.

He said it doesn't crank, it just makes a click noise. That could be the starter, but a dead battery would do almost the same thing. Seeing as the battery is cheaper and easier to replace, I'd try it first. If it doesn't fix it, then replace the starter. If that doesn't fix it, the wires are screwed up somewhere in there.

Tap the starter a few times with a hammer (lightly..) and try to start it.

Like Project84 said, I would start with the basics (air, fuel, spark). Pull the spark plugs and check if they're wet from the gasoline that should be running through there. If they are wet, then you may be able to check off fuel. Also, check for corrosion on the spark plugs. Dry the spark plugs before re-inserting them.
You can check spark by leaving the spark plug out and placing something metal near the electrode while cranking the engine. This is dangerous, so make sure you don't have fuel around. There's a thread somewhere here that describes it a little better.

i had a similar problem with my GSL-SE nad i too thought my starter was bad. i installed a new one and it did the smae thing. turned out my battery cable was not in too good of shape at the terminal. i cut it, stripped it and reconnected......BAM! started like a champ. (then my dad looked at me and said, "you mean i just wasted $100 on a starter?"

thanks everyone for your help. I tried jumping it all day long with my other car but still only click! No dash but when I tried it first before taking the dash out everthing came on. About the battery terminals being not tight enough that may be it because I"m just puting them on there and not tightening them. I will try cleaning the battery terminals. Also how this started happening the guy who had the car first ran it and then stoped it to go inside for about an hour and came outside to find that he couldn't start the car only click! so he bought a brand new battery still click! He thought it was the viper alarm so I just pulled that sunday but still click! Tried jumping it still click! Tried pushing it to no avail! I'm lost but will tighten the turminals and clean them. Thanks
