So I neglected my exhaust...
So I neglected my exhaust...
Hey all! I got my s4 a few weeks ago and I finally got around to cleaning it up the other day. So while I was cleaning it, I found a chicken sized ball of lint in the air cleaner element. It must have made a huge difference because as I test drove her the mid-pipe got kind of blown off, so my exhaust sounds crazy right now.
Surprisingly I've never paid much attention to exhaust systems since I'm not really a mods type of guy (I know, shame one me). So as far as I can tell, It looks like I just want to get the pipe welded back on to the part with the screws lol. Thats what I'm gonna tell the guys at the muffler shop tomorrow. So yeah, I guess just wanted to finally post something, and be sure I'm doing the right thing because it almost seems too simple compared to everything else I've had to do.

It had to have collected over a long period of time, maybe the guy I got it from worked at a pillow factory or something. I really don't know lol. Pretty surprising considering the rest of the car seems to have been taken care of rather well...

i know u said ur not a "mods" guy. but it really do ur car wonders to replace that cat or sraight pipe it, it would help out on the gas. and yes u DEF need a full tune up
1. oil change and filter use castrol 20/50 ONLY 5 qts
2. spark plugs NGK's only. the part numbers u need are BUR7EQ and BUR9EQ (leading/Trailing)
3. plug wires. it would be best not to use cheap *** autozone, advanced wires
4. if a manual trans check level on the side of tranny with the engine off, the gear oil should not look black as hell, thin and runny. if auto check dipstick with the engine running, with the engine at normal running temps. the level should be in the hot or full. the fluid prob needs to be flushed if its dark as hell and smells like a pile of dead cows
5. check level on the rear end. (same as manual trans.)
6. kind of important, check the coolant, it should be neon green, and the resivoir full. (would help to check cold so not to burn the **** out of urself)
the coolant and oil are this engines life line, unlike my friends explorer which still doesnt have any coolant 3 yrs later. and hondas that u can nearly run out of oil.
yes it "looks" like it was taken care of but after seeing that air filter i doubt it was
b4 anything else breaks

+1, looks like mice, at least they don`t appear to have eaten holes in the filter. And while it might be a sign of neglect, mice will move in and set up shop quickly, so it could be as simple as the car sitting for a few days or weeks, and mice happening to think it made a great nest
.
I think I`ll go out and check my filter now, actually
