So I got my TII weighed today...

After getting my 87 TII back on the road I decided to get it weighed to see how much less it is from stock. While it was down I removed all the emissions, changed over to a single exhaust, took out the sound deadening rubber stuff from the hatch, and removed the spare/jack stuff, so I figured although it isn't near stripped there would still be a fair improvement.

Seeing as stock weight is said to be 2850 lbs I was thinking I could maybe drop below 2800. Got the results at the scales....2820 lbs.

What gives? I know there is more than 30 pounds of crap in the corner of my garage not including the exhaust.

The published 2850 weight may be dry weight, i.e., no gasoline, engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and battery. A tank of fuel alone would weigh around 100 lbs. Do some research on what Mazda uses for published weights.

Edit: Just checked. The published Mazda weight is curb weight which includes all consumables.

You really needed to weigh the car before you went on the weight reduction spree so you'd have the data to do a before/after comparison.
As GO48 noted, you have no idea how Mazda came up with their number- which is irrelevant anyway, since you're concerned with your car, not some hypothetical ideal.

Since I have no idea what you do with your car and why you were trying to reduce it's weight, I'll just say this...
A serious weight reduction program is very expensive and requires a ruthless approach which pretty much immediately degrades the vehicle's roadworthiness/comfort/utility.
Removing 100 lbs. from a street car gains you basically nothing.

Just to toss in some irrelevant data- my '91 NA (complete interior, all emissions- even the 3 cats!-and full fuel tank) weighs 2740 on a certified truck scale.

What does this tell you?
Outside of the obvious fact that my car weighs some 80 lbs. less than yours...not much.

Yeah I agree I should have weighed it before to get a true comparison, didn't think about it until I stopped making boost and pulled it in the garage to fix it. I am not going for serious weight stripping, I still have my A/C and PS for example. I just took out stuff I didn't really need. The jack went because I mostly drive it around town and the handle didn't have a mount and was sliding around the hatch, so I took the handle out. No handle, no need for a jack. No jack, no need for a spare, etc.

I was going off the weights listed in the FAQ which says they are the curb weight, so it should have been full fluids, but nothing coming off the line is 100% the same, maybe I just got a heavy one.

you have to also remember, that was the weight with no options. If you car has leather or has any other options (I'm not sure what they were on the S4 TIIs, that's going to add to your weight too.

Aww no fair you got 200 lbs on me Regarding options, I need to double check what was available for S4s. I have power steering, A/C, cruise, and power windows. Manual locks and no funky adjustable suspension. I did weigh it with a full tank of gas.

I'm going to guess that is missing most of the accessories and interior...

I'm at ~2650 depending on how much gas is in it. I probably have another 50-75lbs to lose within the SSM rules. No AC/PS, no interior in rear, 1 race seat, 1 stock TII cloth seat, manual windows.

Needs to lose: Power antenna, sunroof assembly, smaller battery, and the other seat. I'm not sure I'm ever going to get down to the 2500 minimum.

Yea it was nice. But the funny thing was I weighed my car before the second heat and it was 2820lbs. I forgot that I added 2.5 gallons of fuel before the third heat. Great times!!!! Here is a pic of my car.
Thanks Robert

i am surprised how much others are weighing in with more stuff out of the car than mine. when i weighed mine, it had emissions removed, power windows in, stock manual rack, full exhaust and stock turbo with a half tank and it came in at 2750 with me in it. The car is an S4 turbo, which is only slightly lighter than S5's.

275/40/17 kumho v710 and 245/45/17 kumho v710. I wish they had in the states 245/40/17. Next set tires.
Thanks Robert

2790lbs. Most of the scales are for quick certs.

Most of my weight is from the autopower cage. But with 368rwhp I hold my own.

Idk... I think I'd trust the SCCA scales more than a truck scale designed to measure in 100lb increments.

My TITLE states my car weighs 2650lbs. I doubt that. I'd imagine around 2800. 87TII, no ABS, no PS, no AC, manual windows

Yeah, I don't trust my title for anything more than getting my registration. It says I have 4 cylinders and weigh 2700 lbs.
