18 views & no opinions? I'll put the post here, then since maybe running to the other fourm was puttintg some poeple out.
Well, the turbo rebuild I thought I salvaged is still goofy. The car smokes like a freight train all the time. It's oil smoke. Damn near positive of it. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's the turbine seal. The intake side is still nice & oil free. No oil in the intake tract. I think the seal may have wiggled out of it's "slot" in the center section. I was hoping it would seat nicely when I tightened up the nut. That evidently didn't happen. I'm reviewing my options right now.
1) Pull turbo apart, inspect it for obvious problems & reassemble. Maybe I can get the seal to seat properly doing this.
2) Pull turbo apart & try using the old turbine seal. It didn't pass oil prior to the rebuild going bad. I rebuilt due to oil in the intake tract & shaft play. The turbine seal is still in a baggy in the garage.
3) Order new turbine seal & just replace it. This may work, may not.
4) Pull turbo & send it to BNR Supercars for a rebuild. This should be $320. That's $320 that'll be lost if/when I upgrade the turbo instaed of going full T4. I ,of course, don't really feel like spending this as it will push back my painting a bit. Of course, I should probably just suck it up & go this route.
In any case, I'll check the DP for oil when I pull it off. I'm pretty sure I'll find some.
I'm trying very hard to do this as cheaply as possible while still fixing the problem. I'm going to hate it if I have to have it rebuilt as I'll keep it stock. This falls into the spending my money more than once bit that I despise. I'd love to have it upgraded while the rebuild is done, but then I'd have to do some fuel mods (720cc injectors, $240) & get an S-AFC ($315) at minimum. So that'd be $550 plus the upgraded turbo. I'd much rather spend that on a Haltech & some fuel mods instead. The car needs paint/rims/tires first.
