smokes after highway drive?

not sure if this is caused by the engine or the turbocharger so I figured I'd ask..

I haven't had the intercooler pipes off yet to check for oil in them - it's a fresh motor and this just happened today.

After driving at higher revs for an extended period of time, when I stopped at a light and let it idle, it was fine, pulled away from the light and it's smoke city, not just a little smoke but big-league smoke everywhere.

The engine only has about 500 miles on it (give or take) - the turbo has 3500.

this happened several times tonight so it doesn't seem to be a once in a lwhile type of thing.

+1

i was thinking the same thing. if the engine only has 500 miles, no way its broken in yet. u shouldnt even be boosting in the 1st place.

higher revs = 3500.

Hasn't seen more than 1psi either.

dave, I'm doin great :P the car's a monster

well I'm going to probably put another 500 miles on it today so hopefully this issue clears up!

the motor is also leaving crap on my bumper from the exhaust, I'm goign to extend the pipe to slightly past the bumper to hopefully end that.

If the car is running very rich (which I suspect it is...) then oil will bleed past the seals and burn...

Pull the downpipe and check for oil.

car is running 15.5:1 AFR's on the highway (and loving it!)

the car doesn't seem to crapify the bumper anymore after I built a new exhaust and plumbed the wastegate in.

it also still smokes on startup but not at any other time now.... yay. startup smoke I can handle.

I had a HUGE cloud of smoke behind me pulling away from a stop on the 401 once.

huge, like, noone behind me could see in any lane, type of huge.

Lean at cruise is fine, if the engine still runs properly it's not "too lean".

AFR's on boost on the other hand, are currently pigrich.. like 10.5:1 AFR's.. it's really hard to tune a car without having lots of big, empty roads around!
