Question Smoke From Tranny area at start-up

Just a quick question. When the 7 starts to warm up a small amount of smoke starts rising from behind the engine and firewall area where the Tranny is (its an automatic). Here is what I think it may be.....When I replace the U-Joints I took out the drive shaft. There is that orange oil seal in the very back of the tranny that goes around the drive shaft. I did not replace that seal and now a leak drips all night long causing a puddle about as big as a Plumb. I think the ATF is flinging from the Drive shaft and hiting the exhaust then as the car warms up the exhaust burns off the ATF causing the smoke.......Have I been smoking something?

That rear seal is you best bet.
If you replaced the U-joints because of drive shaft vibration, the seal got abnormal wear.

yes, the vibration was really bad and you should have seen the rusty u-joints that came out.

That rear seal comes out like any seal by just pulling it.....right?? And then hammering in the new one evenly.....right?

I assume the seal is the same for automatic and MTX. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago (~$16 from Mazdatrix). Yes, it just comes out and you use a big socket and tap it in. Very easy.
