TX Smoke coming thru my Vert Top while down????

OK, before anyone says "HEY I THINK YOUR TOP MOTORS ARE ON FIRE..."

I have come to the conclusion that my Vert's motor is TOAST, no compression on front rotor and it will run but SMOKES like my building was on fire...
(Assumption being maybe oil control rings are WAAAAY bad dead, possibly apex seal destruction... ) side note: Yes, I bought the car like this, and YES I am going to rebuild the engine, I was trying a few things to see if I could clear up the issue without pulling the engine...

So anyway, When The car is running (which it will only run for about 2 minutes TOPS with me on the gas) it smokes like nothing else I have ever seen, (thick white hey look at me I'm burning oil smoke).

HOWEVER, even after I shut the car off I get SMOKE coming out from the corners of the top (near the door jam) and the same from the mufflers, (obviously from unburnt fuel and oil being slammed into the exhaust...)

Question:
Is this a normal passage for air / gasses from the undercarriage into the cabin????

Ideas??

LOL.... I bet the the "smoke" is getting trapped in the drain tubes for convertible top...and slowly the smoke rises out from those openings...leaving you to think the car is haunted.......LMFAO!

A bad shifter boot, (this thing: ) in conjunction with a leaking exhaust will cause a significant amount of exhaust gasses to enter the interior of the car.

Yeah the shifter boot will cause those gasses to come directly out of your convertible top as you described....NOT That's like saying your loose *** makes you burp alot.

Exhaust gases / burning oil smoke / burning clutch smoke, etc... can get into the interior through a torn shifter boot, THEN escape through gaps in the top / windows. I don't see why this logic is so hard to understand.

On a side note, if there are exhaust gases making their way inside, sitting in the car for long enough will kill you . Carbon monoxide is no fun.

<----I used that since there is no cross eyed icon...there are also tubes that lead from the area the OP mentioned...(to allow water to escape the vert top) that run from that area to the underside of the car where many of these "gasses" exsist. I don't see why this logic is so hard to understand.

Lol. I had to stop and take a minute to find where it actually says that. Now I see it. Nevermind .

TX Wow...

Very constructive and helpful responses children...

Thank you, I did indeed forget about the drain hoses for the top, which I do believe is where my smoke is coming from. Being the first convertable Rx7 I have owned I am still figuring everything out on it.

I did laugh at some of the comments, while others, well...

Thanks anyway.

It was funny because his motor is clearly fucked, and there are massive amounts of smoke coming from everywhere. The idea that the shifter boot is to blame while there is smoke coming through the doors and pretty much anywhere else because there is so much of it, was funny.
