Question Smoke! From around turbo area-

Hello all,
So after GREAT effort I removed the stock preconvertor and main cat. Tonight I bolted on the RB downpipe and presilencer (2.5")

Car sounds great. Things seem to have more pep.

But...

After returning to the garage and turning off the car, I noticed white smoke coming from the area of the downpipe and turbo. Popped the hood, watched the smoke slowly reduce to nothing over a 5-10 minute period. Smoke had a slight odor, almost sweet.

Thoughts:
1. Reusing the stock gasket didn't work and I'm leaking exhaust gas around the area it bolts down.
or
2. Having completely drenched the area several times with copious amounts of PBlaster, I'm watching that burn off.
or

I noticed RB supplied gaskets for both ends of the presilencer, but not the downpipe/turbo interface, which is why I reused the original.

Thanks for any thoughts,
steve

If the odor was slightly sweet. Like you could taste it on the back of your tounge then that is a coolant leak.Check all the hoses in the area of the work you did. probably nicked something or moved one of the hoses.

ontop of that if the rb pipes are new then the film they have on them needs to burn off..after installing my rev2 complete system there was a strange odor and slight yellowish tint to the exhaust for about a month..odor dissapaited over time along with the color. on my dads t2 the new exhaust did the same thing. that may be your culprit for the smell but as far as the smoke the pb prob is just that. if it continues to smoke after about an hour more of run time then you do have other issues. sounds all to familur to me. hope this clarifies things

thanks guys-
I know coolant smell and that isn't it.
So it sounds like I need to drive around real fast for a while and burn off the PBlaster residue.

Misterstyx69 - are you being serious? Where would the gas be coming from? From an exhaust install?

Woops!./.sorry Steve!.I read Gas,but Didn't See EXHAUST gas!..you got me...I am So Sorry..I should be Banished to N/A land!..any how,any New gasket,or pipe install that I have done, usually has an Odor or slight Smoke to it..It sort of makes you do a Double take with it..I keep wondering if anything hit the Exhaust..but it is the Coating burning off the Pipes.
