up to 30 minutes, depends what assembly lube was used. ATF burns the longest and makes the thickest smoke.

I used alot vasoline for assembly lube. when I started the car, first try, it smoked for about 15 minutes with smoke with a fog machine. cleared up just fine, just gotta fix the oil leak on the turbine side of the turbo and she'll be smoke free, I hope...

ok ok i understand that, and i like the baby annology but i mean this thing smokes a lot. like it will go a while without smoking and then for no reason it will dump loads of blue smoke out the exhaust. it was really embarrising when i came to the stop light and it hadnt been smoking and a hot group of girls came up aside me and my car i guess didnt like them and smoked them and i out. is it possible that i screwed up an o ring on the rotar?

the smoking should die down substantially after about 30 minutes, what color is your smoke? Blue im guessing, which means motor oil.

as asked did you port the engine? did you reuse the oil control o-rings? are you sure you installed the oil control ring springs in the right direction?

did you use a template for porting or was it freehand? did you reuse the control ring, the metal ring, or the o-ring?

NEVER reuse oil control o-rings.

my guess is an oil control o-ring is leaking or the port work is effed up.

sorry to say but you will have to tear down the motor again to find the problem.

Hahahhahaaha, your car got jealous.

My girlfriend gets jealous of my car... so why can't a car get jealous of a girl?

Newho, no, it shouldn't be smoking like that.

nope, smoking on initial startup is normal and for up to 30 minutes is normal but once it stops smoking it should not start smoking again, that is an indication of a problem.

Look on the bright side! You didn't shoot 9 ft. flames out the tailpipes at start up!! Haha. My friends first rebuild that happened. It was so crazy. Well I hope you find your problem!

when you say start up do you mean every time i start it up? because i think i see the smoke stop after like 30 min of running after the car hits running temp. so the question 30 min after every start for the break in period?

No, 30 minutes after the initial start up after the engine is first installed. When that clears up, it should not smoke any more. Have you checked your oil? are you consuming any amount that is measurable?

I find it odd that people are always so quick to blame smoke on a bad motor. There are several other factors with these engines that can cause smoke.

An improperly vented PCV/oil system.

A hung open or bad OMP.

A bad turbo, which is quite common.

Most common of all, a rich condition as a result of too much fuel or other control system issues.

Improper porting, worn irons, or improper install of oil control rings can also cause smoke, but any of those would be pretty consistent at a given rpm.
