Smog time...help...Anyone in Bay Area???

Okay, I just wasted my Saturday trying to put my car back to normal for the smog test!!! Bought gaskets, put the cat back on, tune the idle down to about 800 rpm (was 1200), clean engine bay. But my OEM tid was cracked (long ago) and I customize my TID w/ HD piping. I also have cone filter, K&N breather on air pump, and XS BOV.

Now the venting. Went to 5 shops and none of them want to do my car. They looked at teh colorful BOV and air filters and alll shake their head. 2 shops even told me to prove (w/ CARB numbers) that the parts are legal. None even know what the BOV is...WTF!!! Need help!!! Anyone know of a shop in South Bay Area that is willing to smog my car (either post here or PM me)??? I think my car will pass the sniffer, but the inspection is giving me trouble. Please help!!! My friend used to own a shop but has since sold it. Any suggestions. An no, extra dead presidents don't help. I tried already.

Jay

Yeah, smogging the RX7 can be a real hassle. I had gone to 3 shops for my stock FD! Some machines don't read the RPM right and my idle was too high. I had to fix my LIM leak before it passed.

Try Lozano's in Sunnyvale @ 408 730-0567 on El Camino. They smog FDs all the time. DP and intake shouldn't be a problem there. You'll need your main cat though. Give them a call first to make sure they will pass you visually with what you've got. They charge $35 including the certificate. Let me know what happens!

move out of that @*(#ed up state.. all the stupid environmental wackos complain about not enough energy to go around for everyone, then we suggest nuclear plants (clean, no pollution, etc..) and they get all freaked out, and.. oh I'm on a rant now.. just move out.. away from the environmental wackos

I actually think smog checks are a great thing to keep those polluters off of the road. CA has a very high concentration of cars (and ppl) so it' important to keep the air clean.

For those that like to mod their car: yes, it's a bitch to have to put things back. I personally don't think running without the main cat is very responsible. It really screws up the air/atomisphere.

It's just a bitch to get rotary engines smogged sometimes. I thought CA requires some sort of stringent testing at a state-run station like some safety inspection in east coast states (e.g. NJ). I don't think failing the visual inspect messes up your DMV record so it's not too bad.

Unless your car is perfect or almost all stock, you do get into problems from time to time. Also, the older smog machines don't read rpm right. I am somewhat glad that I got the LIM leak fixed. I also replaced the fuel pulsation damper, rad hose and thermostat which could have caused major problems. My car runs cool now and the idle is perfect. It was $$$ for the repairs but worth it bc my engine and turbo will last longer now. All this thanks to a gentle persuation called smog check!

Move out of the state...LOL (born and raised in CA...and will died here too). Sorry Barwick, you no help...I hate the 5mph bumper laws here too (reason why we don't get the "nice" Japanese cars here), but I ain't moving out of the country. Jay
