sleeve install on 5th and 6th ports

i took out my sleeves two years ago cause they were gummed up, i am putting them in but dont remember which way the opening faces on the sleevewhen you slide them in intially, also do i put oil on them?? and will my cat converter plug up if i dont have an air pump...this is on my 88 SE, i have no air pump, manifold-downpipe-converter-twin greddy mufflers...will ports work anyways?

They won't work without the air pump unless you fabricate your own system to open them. The Haynes manual shows you how to put them in. The little pin going across the tube has an alignment mark on it. The book also has schematics of the air hoses and vaccuum hoses. It will show you what is necessary to get them to work.

its a 88....thought i didnt need the pump...because the back pressure from the converter opens them

Correct. Imagine the ACV being the center line of the motor. now Install the sleeve openings away from this Imaginery line. Doing It this way will allow the Actuators, when compressed, to meet at this line.

As for activation, follow an rpm activated method If your sleeve aren't rotating on demand.
