Single or Dual Exhaust?

Ive had my 89 GTUs for 4 months and Im thinking its time for a complete exhaust system upgrade. Im going for the Racing Beat but not sure to get the single (streetable?) or the dual (road race).

Whats the difference in power gain between those two? Is the dual louder comparing to the single?

To avoid confusion....Im talking about the RACING BEAT exhaust and not the other "single" or "dual" exhaust sytems.

I have the dual and I really enjoy it. I think it's perfectly quite for the street but it still retains a nice sound when you get into the throttle. It's also not to loud to have a pleasent conversation in the car either. If you search youtube you can probably find sound clip of both. The downside to both systems is the weight. They are extremely heavy.

RX7Tuner has the same exhaust as me and mine is a bit louder but still very low I can listen to the raido, carry a conversation or talk on my cell with NO problems at all because of exhaust noise..

I say stick with dual exhaust

hey mate
i got a single 3inch turbo bak, with a hi-flow cat, and a canon muffler on the rear(not a racing beat one) but its crazy loud, i doubt the single racing beat if setup the way mine is would be any quiter than mine.
for performance wise the single is much mroe responsive and better top end, the single is better in performance wise but way too loud(but i love it loud, personal choice i guess). i used to have a twin 3inch sytem and felt a difference in power, and was much quiter.
hope that helps mate
cheers

There's an exhaust thread on this forum if you want some good opinions on how to build a proper NA exhaust. I've posted in it so you can just search under my name.

go with the true duals (road race) and call it a day. LOL at all the people that missed the point of this thread. you guys are funny.

He wants to know between the collected RB system or the True dual Rb system, not single can vs. dual cans.

What's with the Initial D name??? couldn't come up with something interesting?

The road race true dual uncollected header exhaust system from RB is a good compromise between power and noise and, IMHO, the best system for a street FC with stock or mildy ported engine. It gives your the boost where you want it on the street, in the low to midrange.

The other exhausts that produce better power gains up top still give you a good boost everywhere, but they tend to be much louder.

once he's ready for a track-only car he can go into your thread about the headers and stuff but the true duals seems like the best option right now.

Now by "boost" you mean power/torque increase and not actual forced induction "boost" right? remember he's NA.

Dual. ~$1120.
Single. ~$925. $780 if you don't replace the Y pipe.

You'll get slightly more power with the dual. And they sound different of course. I'm going to go single b/c I don't care to spend money just to get a smidgen of extra power. A racer would go dual (or beyond that if there's something better). It all depends what you want.

the the OP:
it wouldve been better to search instead, all you're going to get is OPINIONS.... none of which matter to you unless one of these guys lives close to you for you to make a more informed decision.

IMHO the single is just fine for anybody, and the Duals are to be used in a built/ported motor used in requent race events and not for a DD. the duals are LOUDER than the single, i have experience in this matter

I myself have the RB single outlet header and pre-silencer going to stock y-pipe back and it sounds very metallic-y/tinny. although i am going to get the rest of the exhaust in november(b-day) and i can tell you that at WOT it is as loud as a ricey honda, but at anything less than 50% throttle its very toned down and a few db louder than stock, this can be attributed to the stock y-pipe and mufflers tho so completeing the rest of the exhaust will make it much quieter....

p.s. youtube is your friend for subjects like this

For a street car, the dual will make slightly more horsepower, but more pull down low.

I don't think either of them is that loud, it's slightly louder than the downpipe.

Yeah, I have no idea what I meant in that post.

True Duals are better for the street....end of story.

RB true Dual isn't loud. You don't have to worry about noise with either. If you want a good sound go with Dual. If you want horsepower and don't care about sound go with ISC Racing exhaust system.

Id go dual. IMO the single looks retarded because the side that does not get the exhaust has that space for exhaust. Unless you cover that up it should look alright. Also the dual looks aggressive.

you could get the road race header, and the flange that matches it, and get an exhaust shop to build up the rest. With the proper Cats and mufflers it would be quiet.
