Thumbs up Simplifying the engine bay

i just love doing this. it's so awesome ted is back. we can ask him everything now

so far: egr, acv, airpump, cats, omp, ps, ac can be removed. now how hard is it to remove the colored plastic solenoids?

i just want a solid running engine and the simpler the better. is there anything else that isnt really necessary?

If you got no emissions, three out of the five can be immediately tossed.

The other two are green (twin-scroll) and orange (FPR).

If you want to eliminate the twin-scroll, you can eliminate this green solenoid.&nbsp I find the twin-scroll doesn't really work that well. :P

The orange FPR one isn't really necessary, as you can run the vacuum fitting off the stock FPR directly to some vacuum fitting after the throttle body - this is important, as the FPR needs to see vacuum under low-load and decel conditions.

This is for (1986-1988 Zenki) turbo FC's. The 1989-1991 Kouki FC turbos have an extra turbo wastegate solenoid, but if you have a boost controller, you can eliminate this extra solenoid also.

hehe, I'm killing time waiting for a phone call.&nbsp I had only 4 hours of sleep last night.&nbsp It's after 11pm right now, and I gotta get up in 6 hours.

It depends on how I'm feeling, but I try to tackle some of the more lengthy questions out there.&nbsp This stuff should all be on my website (ideally), so all I need to do is drop URL's.

Stay tuned for my FC3S website in a couple weeks!

just pull the whole engine out, cut some holes infront of the seats, and get a good pair of running shoes

answer is easy, get a haltech and lose it all!!

i am not sure of what exactly was what, but when we rewired my car, we removed a HELL of alot of **** from the engine bay.
i'll take some pix of it 2morrow in the daylight. It is basically as empty as an FC engine bay can get.
Every single skerrick of the pollution gear is gone from my FC. You don't need any of it.
i just wanna remove the first set of throttle butterflies now, sa I am told they are not needed at all, and reduce engine operating smoohtness, and rob a few HP.
With the Thermo Fan in, it is gonna look even MORE empty.

i love it. I love removing unnecessary **** outta my car.
Weight reduction & streamlining are the way to go!

Hailers had a few things to say about removing the solenoids on my 87 n/a:

http://www.rx7forum.com/showthread.p...light=solenoid

I've got them all out, but I don't have the car in a "running" stage yet.. So I can't comment on how/if it will work..heh

Ted's comment about the FPR does concern me tho.. If I experience problems, I'll try that vacuum hose trick.

Did you get the BAC and...mm...that other thing that's sorta like the BAC..right next to it.. that raises engine idle when you use the power steering..

my engine bay houses this:

the basic 'block'
the manifolds with nothing on them
the intercooler
the TB with nothing except the E6K TPS on it
the turbo with just a boost control solenoid and BOV
the exhuast with an 02 Sensor

the coils and the sensors needed to run the E6K and keep the dash guages working. everything else went south

I have no OMP, BAC, ABV, ABBA, ACDC or BG's :P

HWO,
Do you have pictures of your car/engine bay?
Do you have a website or anything?

Another thing, you from NZ right? you guys can get ANYTHING for rotaries over there,...do you know of anyone that sells a Carbon Fibre bonnet or Fibreglass Bonnet for the FC3S, *very* preferably with a reverse scoop?

btw, you kiwis got to see the Fellowship of the Ring b4 anyone else on Earth! You ******* sucks! I am *incredibly* jealous! I almost bought a $500AU return ticket to NZ just to see the premiere of Lord of the Rings b4 anyone got to see it here in Oz.

will have some fresh pics shortly, the only pics i have at the moment are from when i was doing my haltech install and my engine bay was gutted and i only had the block sitting in there.

In a couple of months time i may be able to sort you out a carbon fibre bonnet with reverse scoop, it'll be exactly the same as the one i plan on getting made if i can sort you one out, a guy my mate knows runs a yacht builders and does car parts in his spare time from the carbon fibre, when i have the rest of my car finished, i will be looking for a reverse scoop carbon fibre or fibreglass bonnet and a lexan rear hatch so i'll see what i can get, it may not be until april or even may.

cheers
Shane

PS: i couldn't give a toss about lord of the rings.............................. JFWIW

Yeah let me know man. Sounds all good!
Do you know how much lighter the Lexan rear hatch is over the stock rear glass hatch? That stock glass hatch is pretty heavy 'eh?

Ahhh, there is more to life than these stupid cars of ours man.
Don't **** away ALL your time on them. When you completely lose touch with your imagination & childhood, that's when you might as well jump in a grave. Tho i s'pose you're just sick of hearing about it 'coz you're from NZ. The media barrage over it must've been intense over there.

Whatever,

Paintball is my other passion besides my car

i seem to go for the really expensive hobbies for soem reason hahaha

I have a good one for ya now, i work at a car dismantlterswreckers, we had a early 90's shape front wheel drive galant with a VR4 spoiler kit on it, i got the front bumper panel cause its damaged enough we would never sell it, for free, and am setting about grafting it onto the upper half of a standard series 4 front panel which i had sitting around with a damaged bottom on it. its like they were ment to be, the galant bumper wraps around onto the wheel wells and sits down about 2 inches lower than the standard bumper, if i can graft it on well it's gonna be one hella mean original one of a kinda front spoiler set up and it'll only cost me the putty **** to do the minor repairs to the galant bump and the epoxy to glue the two together, will take some pics of it when its finished

Never heard the terms Zenki and Kouki used before. Are those just more nicknames for those certain series?

And another thing. I'm still confused on some of the abbreviations for parts of the RX-7. One of the few I know is OMP (Oil Metering Pump), and of course I know PS and AC
Some I don't know are BAC, ABV, ABBA, ACDC, BG, FPR, EGR, ACV
Mind being my rotary dictionary ;-)

BAC = Bypass Air Control valve
FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator
EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve (Bullshit emissions on sports cars. WTF is that all about?)
ACV = Air Control Valve (More emissions crap, but it makes a cool sound if you take the silencer off of it.)

WTF are these? They sound made up to me:
ABV - Air Bypass Valve? (BOV?)
ABBA - Not a clue.
ACDC - I don't know this one either.
BG - Or this one.

you have taste. I'm having a BattlePack day up at Wallan on the 12th Jan(in Victoria) with about 16 friends where we are going to shoot the **** out of each other with paintball guns!

We got the paintball grenandes, you pull the pin and throw, and when they hit the ground they kinda spin around like a sprinkler, splurting paint out everywhere. If paint gets on you i s'pose you are meant to assume you copped a bit of shrapnel, and you're out.

we can only get the pump action guns tho, not the full or semi auto ones, b/c of the gay totalitarian antigun laws here in Oz.

Paintball rocks!

OK, so where is the stock FPR , then just connect that to a vacuum line after the TB. Then i just cap off all those other fittings and run my fuel lines directly to the fuel rails, right? then i just ripp the solenoids and all those metal vacuum lines right out. I can also get rid of that black oval looking thing right, thats attched to those metal vacuum lines?
