Question side molding

im swapping fenders from an 88 gxl onto my 86. both are artic silver but the side molding on the gxl is different from mine. the s5 side moldings are held in by clips i believe while the s4 is held on my an adhesive tape of some sort. Both of my fenders are s4 fenders so they both use the tape. So i would like to swap moldings so the new fender will match the rest of my car. does anyone have any techniques they would like to share on how to get the moldings off with out ruining them or the fender. thanks.

Maybe you meant 89? Cause the 88 has the same type of moldings as the 86. But if you need to remove the moldings, use pliers to press down the clip and push it right out.

no, i do mean 88 like i said both use the adhesive. what is differnt is the look of them. the 86 has a section in the middle that is pushed in while the middle of the 88 sticks out.
