should i shroud my E-fan?

I have a spal 16" e-fan on my stock rad right now. It flows about 2350 cfm, at idle and during slow traffic it hold it's own very well. However i'm soon to be installing the K2RD monster. SO would placing a shroud out of aluminum help the fan scavenge more air out of a wider surface area? The K2RD is a double pass horizontal design. I was thinking about making it about 4" out and placed closer to the top since that's where most of the heat will be. Has anyone here noticed a difference by adding a shroud to the e-fan. The stock pulley fan has one, so i wouldn't see this hurting.

the stock pully has one since there is so much distance between the fan and the radiator (it increases efficiency)......but if you put a shroud in front of the radiator with the electric fan, im sure you can help funnel the air through it which shouldnt hurt.....i think someone around here did something like that...here you go http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/frontend/phase3.htm

If you don't make all the air pass through the fan you aren't doing a good job of cooling.
All the shroud you need with a e-fan is enough to seal the area next to the fan, to force all air through ths fan.

but the way the fan is right now it won't pull air from the car corners of the fan.

Right now your fan only covers ~60-70% of the surface area of the core. A properly constructed shroud will draw air across 100% of the core. You figure it out....

I understand. I am saying you need a shroud to cover the radiator, and force all air through the fan.

My fan sits on the rad.

Edit:

The shroud does, that is. The fan is about 1.5-2in off the rad.

i have talked to Soul Assassin a bit.. he had a 16" permacool mounted just on his rad without a shroud and he said that there has never been a problem and has had no cooling problems.. and we know what he was doing to his engine

You are missing the point: Why spend the $$$ and Time to Half-*** install something so that it only performs at 60% of its capability? Do you cover 40% of its surface area up? I don't get this Half-assed attitude that prevails on this forum

Do you restrict 40% of the flow on your exhaust system?
Do you block 40% of your Intercooler?

THEN WTF do you install something and only utilize 60% of the area available?????

Banzai : count to 10 my man. I KNOW the shroud will help. My Q was "how much." I can't see it hurting so, i'm gonna have to concoct something. Have you done anything like this? Share the wealth man. I think i will place the fan towards the top, since that's where it's the hottest. people do half *** here alot.

I would construct a shroud with a 4" backspacing, placing the fan in the middle upper 2/3's of the core area.
