I'm new in the whole RX7 world...about 1month since I bought it.....1987 Base Model RX-7 N/A for 1,250$$....I have been into Hondas since high school.(how much **** will I get for posting that one) I actually own a prelude back home that is in storage ...I love the way the RX-7 is built, how it handles (better than my prelude with 2,000$$ worth of suspension upgrades) and I always here how reliable they are... etc....So questions...#1. Was it worth the money that I paid for the car?(118,000miles,Very good condition) #2. What is more reliable in your opinion, a honda, or an RX-7. Depending on all of your feedback (assuming I get some) and how the car holds up for the next 5 months will depend on if I keep the car or sell it and stick with my Prelude....Please be fair...and keep in mind that talking **** about hondas isn't going to change anything. Thanks for your input. Z
The reliability is all about how you care for the car....
3000 mile oil changes, new plugs as due, etc. etc.
and the RX-7 can be a very dependable vehicle. On the other hand, abuse it and skip maintenance, it will be your worst enemy.
You seem to have gotten a pretty good deal for yours, it the body and interior are in nice shape. But what we tell you here on the forums is good or not means nothing. You have to ask yourself......do I feel I got a good deal?
Welcome to the forums and good luck with your RX

Well, the dependablity of your 7 is going to depend a LOT on how it was treated by the previous owner(s)...
My 7 had 84K on it when I bought it... I changed the oil with Castrol 20w50 and ran premix (with functioning OMP), redlined it, kept the plugs changed, and she still ate the rear rotor at 96K.. not the motors fault, but more likely the previous owner. I'd think a water cleaning (I believe Hypntyz on the board has directions, do a search) would probably be a good idea, to blast any carbon out (I'm pretty sure that's what killed mine).
Oh, and a 'lude is a nice car. I've never been a Honda man myself (was into DSMs and 300Zs) but I can certainly concede that the Prelude is a nice car, with some potential (though they do pretty much suck as a drag car.
)
Good luck with your 7!

If you can afford it, keep it. People are going to whine and cry at me for this, but the RX-7 is not reliable when compared to any Honda. Not even close. However, if you keep it maintained, you'll be happy.

In my experience, Honda is the best in reliability. I have owned 2 hondas, both have been to 150K miles and I know one of them still runs today (the guy lives semi-close to me), I dunno where the other one is. Now my 86 benz...that needs a head gasket after 120K miles. But im just gonna drive it till this piece of **** dies then buy my rx7. But back to the question, yes the honda will be more reliable then the 7 (like you can skip maintence on a honda and it wont bite u in the ***), but hondas are slow and they are no fun, and it takes big $$$ to make 'em fast. So just do your regular maintence, fix all problems BEFORE you mod, and sell the 'lude to buy parts for the 7
