Should I get this NA 91 rx-7?

I know someone (friend of a friend) who is selling it for $1500. It has a blown rotor, so if I sent that to http://www.rotaryresurrection.com and had it rebuilt/streetported, that would be about 1500, bringing the total cost to $3000.

The clutch was replaced less than 10,000 miles ago. Body has some paint damage and some dings here and there. New high-flow exhaust system from front to back. Belts (or was it pulleys) were replaced, supposedly giving it 15hp (BS, but they're new anyway). Indiglo gauges too. New front tires, rear tires aren't so new, but don't need to be replaced just yet.

Any thoughts?

talk him down to $1,100. I wouldn't pay $1,500 for most running NA's let alone a blown one.

What trim option is it? I was able to grab a 1987 GXL with all the goodies, 2000 miles on the tires, 200 miles on the clutch, a new HKS exhaust, and 105,000 miles for $2,000 and it runs strong.

If you are willing to wait, just cruise the for sale area and post that you're looking.

thats probably a little much 1500 for a rx7 with a blown motor and some body damage. If i was you i'd give him 1000.

You might want to add another 1000 bucks or so plus an extra 100 bucks or more for nickely and dime ****. You are gonna need to upgrade your ECU.

since its your friend he might not take teh cost down more (that doesnt seem right but then again it does), but usually i find people selling them with everything in good condition just a blown motor for well under $1000. mabey look around more or get him to drop the price down.

Hadn't though about needing to replace the ECU..... (I'm new to rotaries.... hell, most automotive stuff, but i've got the desire to learn)

Is it okay to drive with a blown rotor? He said he can drive it around his neighborhood, I'd like to try driving it to get a feel for the condition of the transmission and brakes.

how "blown" is the motor
when you start it up, cold, does it smoke a little or pour out smoke
and how does the coolant and oil look?

Bring down the price and pay the money if you have the $$ to spend on a car that will require nicel and diming (much like how row-tar-eeeh so accurately put it) and start workin on it.

No idea, when I checked it out the guy wasn't home, however his friend stopped by and talked about the car with me. He didn't have the keys so I wasn't able to see it run.

EDIT: by blown, I mean one of the rotors is totally non-functional

You need to add removal, shipping, & installation costs.
Also a bad rotor can ruin the housing, so you may have to add a replacement housing to that rebuild estimate.

Is it okay to drive with only one rotor working? I'd like to get a feel for the brakes and transmission; to see what kind of condition they are in.
