Should i buy, no key

I found a white 1990 s5 for 600 bucks, he doesnt have the key so he doesnt know if it runs or not. He owns a towing company and he towed it, i havent asked him if he legally "owns" it, i might have trouble registering it, is there any way to get a new key from mazda, or swap the key thing off the steering colom of another FC?

ive heard of different rx7 keys can open doors but i dont think it would work for the ignition... i wouldnt pay 600 for osmthin i have no idea what kind of shape the motor is in..id find a way to start it..or at least see if its blown...imagine how depressed you would be when you got a used ignition and key and its blow!!

and make SURE he has title and such to transfer...unless its a parts car i wouldnt touch it!

An ignition swap is best. Heck for 600.00 you can part the crap out of it and make your money back if it doesn't run.

call the police department and run a VIN check. make sure the one in the engine bay is the same as the plate on the dash. if it clears get it.

I have had one key made at the dealer from my VIN. But the second time I went in (years latter for different car) they told me they dont do that anymore. So call ahead and save yourself a trip just in case.

80 miles from reno 200 to sac. You by Trukee???

They do it, they just ask to see the ownership first to make sure you own the vehicle.

They gave me keys without seeing anything from me. If WV is good for anything, its good for people not doing things by the books.

I finnially got to go back out to the towing yard to check out this RX7. This guy that owns it is a complete jerk. I ask him if i can compression check it and he responds "make me an offer first" so i saw "I dont know what i can offer until check the condition of the motor" "I said make an offer" he says. So i told him i'll give him 300-400 if the motor is blown he says it is worth way more than that even if the motor is shot, he wants a grand if the motor is blown. So i finnaly get to go back and check it for compression and i find all the plugs are missing so i dont even get to check it I'm thinking screw this guy and ill find another FC.
