Is it a short, vacumm line or is it just my alternator?

Its a 91 RX7 Manual

When ever I hit the break pedal, hit the turn signal, roll my window down or do anything electrical my gauge lights dim down and my voltage goes down some, never under 12 though. Its always so close to dying but doesnt, atleast so far it hasnt. Its only ok if Im reving to produce the power to keep the car a live.

There is a whistling sound from the engine like a vacumm line is open with air either going in or coming out. The idle is also very low and bouncy. Im going to try adjusting it later to see if that would help any also. The head lights were also wired manually by the owner before cause something went wrong with the stock controls. So maybe a short some where there? There is a newer alternator that got put in by the previous owner on the car but we all know how much autozone and all the other places have sucky rebuilt ones. I'm just trying my best to narrow this down.

I am going to check it out more this Sunday when the sun is out.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same problem on my 91 t2. In my case though, turning on something like the rear defrost smooths out the bumpyness.

I'd like to think it may be just not enough good grounds, but i'm not sure. Anyone got anything else on this?

Sounds like your BAC isnt compensating for the increased electrical load, check the resistance between the two terminals, iirc it should be 11-15k or somewhere around there. A reading of zero means it is most likely shot.

Sounds like the noise is coming from around the BAC. Drove it around more today and its ok sometimes and not other times. Would cleaning it fix it? Or should I just replace the BAC.

you can try cleaning it, but if its out of spec thats irrelevant btw "spec" is between 10.7-12.3
