Short throw shifter (a little confused)

I was thinking of buying a mazdatrix short shifter for my FC. There was a thread earlier "short shifter vs. short thorw shifter" or something like that and I just want to make sure that I buy a right shifter. So my guestion is: Is this a short THROW shifter?
http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm (part nro.752-0114B).

Does it really make shifting that much better and faster compared to stock?

Does anyone have anything negative to say about that shifter?

My friend's rattles, I still can't figure out why, and yes Ted I think the site does specify this. Then again, some don't rattle. Ted, can you elaborate on why they rattle. I'm stumped.

my brother put a short throw on his mk3 and it rattles as well.. because the stock shifter has a rubber boot that surpresses all the vibrations on the stock and his custom made one doesnt... so any tranny vibe goes right up the shifter.. thats my experience... i dunno if the same applies here

Short shifter is just cutting down the height of it, making the hand distance traveled a little smaller, while the short throw shifter is just making the paths shorter to go from/to. (i think)

yes a short shifter cuts the length down...minimizing the throw a lil

however a true short throw shifter is not the lenght of the actual shifter but deals with the bearings attatching to the tranny......minimizing the throw by a great deal

Yea Chris is right. About the vibrating, on Mazdatrix website it says that you have a 1/3 chance, and it depends on the car, not the shifter (like you could put 100 different shifters in the same car and they would all rattle, but in a different car no shifter would rattle). Hell I would take the chance, cause short throws are awesome!

It's about the same height as oem but the shifting throw is cut tremendously. So to answer your question, it's a short 'throw' shifter. It may look short but it will come out to about OEM height.

P.S. ~ Sorry for high jacking your thread with my questions.

You will like the Mazdatrix shifter. Mine will rattle in 4th at high rpm but not in 5th. well worth the money.

cheaper ones are one piece

i just looked at C's shorthrow and its 2 piece design (same like stock shifter) which has some kind of rubber between those 2 parts....without it, its always big chance of some vibrations being transferred to the top of shifter (****)

My Mazdatrix shifter works great

I have had one for 1 year. Its GREAT!! My shifter was very sloppy before. I think the bushing were gone. I also had leaks. The fluid was getting all over the shift boot and they cracked. The damage got to the vinyl shift boot. I got the short shifter and a new leather shift boot. There are not rattles(lucky 2/3).

The feel is like a video game. Its very precise and I feel no vagueness in the shifting like I had before the replacement. I recommend that you do it especially if you feel like your shifting could be better.
