Short Shifters

What are some good brands that are good for their money? I've never used a short shifter before, so i have a few questions. How easy is it to put in on an 89' TII? Is it more likely to miss shift with them, or is it just overall easier? How much do they usually go for?

I've got the mazdatrix one. Got it off ebay for a good price, $120. Considering that mazdatrix sells them for atleast $200 I think. Definetly an awesome mod though. Its well worth buying. Takes about 2 minutes to install. Only thing bad is that about half of the shifters rattle a little bit. I guess in some cars they rattle and some they dont. Mine rattles a little bit, but it doesn't bother me too much cuz the short throw is awesome. Go for it you will love it.

How about an old school wood ball, set way down on the stick?

It stays cool, and you can reach 5th without leaning forward.

the JDM is still not as short as a short throw; the wobblong and rattling isn't that bad.

That's nice! Being that it's aluminum, does it get hot at all?

i imagine it does. i used to have an STi titanium shift **** for my Subaru but sold it since it got palm-numbingly cold during the winter and skin-melting hot during the summer.

How shaky are they? Like can you hear the vibrating, or just feel it?

I got the C's short throw shifter and everyone that I let try it loves it. Found it on ebay for 210. No problems with rattling here.

My question is why the hell does a piece of metal cost $120.00-$200.00? That is a hella lot of money for a shifter. I think I would just cut mine and weld it before I spend that kind of money.

The price of the short shifter is not solely in parts and construction. They have to raise the price to make up for the money invested in R&D and testing, but still I think they are slightly overpriced but they do have to make a profit.

mazdatrix

I got the mazdatrix....LOVE IT. No rattling, and now I can chirp the wheels when I dump it into 2nd gear. If you have $200, it is well worth the price. Plus if your original shifter is getting old and worn, why not replace it? I highly recommend it, easy to install too.

I have the mazdatrix one and I love it. Part of the cost are the gaskets and boots it comes with. Higgi sells one without that stuff if you want something that's a little less.

I have a aluminum Razzo shift ****.. the stock **** was way too high even with the short shifter.. The Razzo has pretty thick nylon threads and it helps isolate the temp but on 100+ days it gets too damn hot.

Here are some pics of the short shifter with the different *****.. I love the way the stock one looks I just wish it wasn't so damn tall!! It's like I'm rowing the car forward with the shifts.
