when I lock the short shifter into place so it doesnt spin, it only locks in the same spot, so when I screw the **** on, the **** is never positioned right. Is there something I can do?

I am not exactly sure if you are saying what I think you are but, is there a ring type of peice on the shifter that the boot ties to and the bottom of the **** butts up against when it is tight? If so, you may be able to spin that ring to the point where the **** will tighten to it in the correct position. I hope this helps.
