short in ignition?

i went to turn my 1988 t2 with s5 jdm swap and i turned key to off position and it stayed idling then sputtered out... the next day i did it again and it turned off right away but then next time i tried it, it sputtered out again... the real problem is it stays on after i turn key off and then sputters out... im guessing a short in one of the wires in back of the round ignition turn...
