Shopping for an FC, prices inflated?
It seems that many of the TurboII's I find are priced pretty high ($5000-$6000+). Are people just asking really high prices but actually selling much lower?
I've seen people on this board claim they bought their FC's for around 3k, and repeatedly it has been said they usually can be found around 3k if you are shopping for one. Is this a dated opinion, or does it still hold true?
Just looking for some thoughts, I am considering an FC for my new project, but if I have to spend more than $3000, I may scrap that plan.

I think youll be hard pressed to find a very nice Turbo2 for less than $3k. Thats not saying you cant find one, but its not going to be in prestine condition. For example, I bought my 88 Turbo2 for $1250. It had a full RB exhaust, intake, KYB 8-way adjustable struts, RB springs, and a Blitz TT,and a few other things. However, the car had ~140k miles on it, and it had a bit of body damage. Just keep looking , you should be able to scoop one for $3-4k in pretty good shape.

i purchased one about 6 months ago. it was an '87, red, body in good condition, paint in good, but faded condition, interior was awesome, low 90K on the odometer, but returned it because the compresion was low and i didn't have money to keep the car and rebuild. i returned it to the guy and got my $2800 back; the purchased price.
i have one dvd of initialD. its okay. i want later versions, honestly. its an interesting cartoon.

My friend paid $2500 for his '87 TII that was in decent body condition but ran superb even to this day. Although another friend paid $4500 for his '90 TII that was in mint condition with like 80k miles on it. I paid $1000 for my '89 GXL and it runs great and looks good. You just have to look for deals here and there. Here in Utah there's lots of old people with S5's and TII's. I'm talking an old lady into selling me her '91 GTU with 31k miles and is pristine shape! She's seriously thinking about my $1500 offer.

I can stand getting something a little rough. I am more concerned about the body, and having no rust. Judging by the responses, it seems there are some $3000 range FC's out there.
Don't get me wrong, I can understand paying a bit more for something that is in mint condition, but once it goes beyond $6000, I think it's a bit excessive.
Ah well, I have plenty of time to shop around. BTW, I've never seen Initial D either, but I've heard about it so many times I'm between being "sick of it" and "very curious to see it."
Thanks for the opinons guys.

I bought the Initial D special stage ps2 game ( like the arcade one) wohoo im exited. Now I just need to wait for the slide card to play it.
And yes initial d did raise the price of RX-7s AE86s and others, althow AE86s price seem to be goin down now.
The FC on the other hand seem to flunktuat, depending from who you buy it from. Three years ago when I boght my RX-7 prices where around 3,500 to 4000. Now they are at 1.5k to 3k for N/A anyway. S5 TII have always been hard to find and price.

I snagged my 88 NA SE (with working AC, factory charge!) for $2500, 117k miles, in pretty good shape. Could use some paint though.
Right now I'm pumping another $2000 into it (rebuild kit, new clutch, exhaust) and the engine is in pieces next to me.

You must remember when buying any car... the price asked is often quite different than the price paid.
For example the dealers "bottom line" price on my vert a couple years back was $3800... yet I only paid him $2600...
Still he advertised and asked for $3800.
You must learn the fine art of negotiation when buying a car

I paid $500 for my S5 GXL. It needed a bit of work though... another transmission, ECU, and electronic MOP. I still came out ahead though. A good, running car for less than a grand.

I paid $5250 for my S5 TII, but it was in mint condition with 100,000 miles and a very recent rebuild. Some modifications too. I think it was a bargain, because I still have yet to have any problems with it.

S5 TII's retain value pretty well, especially clean ones.
Over here, FC NA prices haven't risen. Just stayed the same or gotten lower. Seems a lot of people are afraid of rotaries here or something. S13 prices have skyrocketed though. And S4 TII's seem to retain the same value since 1-2 years ago when I was in the market for them.

very lucky buy RyoFC3S, congratz.
per topic, no, dont look at the bluebook for what an FC is worth. i was checking out an E30 M3... it's around 8K to 10K still... god i luv em....
they (S5's) will keep floating around at the 6K point, and it's been 3 years already since i first bought mine.
but i think it's nice of the drifting scene. you see, many ppl want them, yet they dont really know them and take care of them. and in turns, they blow it, no money to fix it, they will sell it~ and we get them for cheap~ w00t~

it depends, i know of a clean white on black 90 t2 with low miles that SOLD for 10k
if you dont need a white s5 t2 then they get cheaper, s4 na's can be had for $500 all day long, they usually need something major though (engine, paint, or both!)

Yea I paid around 5K for mine.
But the condition is excellent. It was already modded (with mods that I would have otherwise purchased) and it has not given me one real problem yet.

It also very much depends on where you are located. the price of FC's (and all cars) does depend on large part to the supply and demand of them in any given area. The same car will sell for different amounts in different places.
Try and look in some larger areas within a few hour drive of you. You may find that the prices there are slightly lower. That was the case with me. I got my car about 300 miles from my house - in another city - because there were more cars in better condition there. The price difference was VERY noticable at the time!
