AR Shifting problems

I have a 90 GXL. About 6 years ago I was driving and came to a light. When I went to go the car started going in reverse while the shifter was in 1st gear position. Anyways got that fixed cost me $900. Prob havent put 10k on it since then. Now I can barely get into first . And 2nd not at all. I have to go from 1st to 2nd. It seams as though something is keeping it from going in to gear. Also seems like the other gears are a little off position. Anyone know what this could be? Also all the rubber is off of the bottom of the shift boot. Thanks! The clutch is new too.

Also it had been making a whirring noise when clutch is out. When compressed it stops.

Was the throw out bearing replaced Sounds like that would cause the problem.

A whirring noise with the clutch pedal out would be the transmission main bearing. Been there, done that. If it only made the sound with the clutch pedal depressed, it would be the throwout bearing. The problems getting into gear sound like a linkage or synchro problem. The weak NA transmissions can be a major pain. Rather than blowing money on a rebuild, I'd opt for a TII transmission instead. You'd need an S5 TII flywheel, TII clutch, TII slave cylinder, TII/auto starter and a custom driveshaft to mate with the NA rear end (www.mazdatrix.com), but it will cost a lot less than a rebuild. Besides costing you less, you'll have a much stronger transmission too.

If you let out the clutch, does it go in reverse? Are your reverse lights currently on?

What happened to you 6 years ago at the light and its respective solution is the following:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=stuck+reverse

It happened to me when I first got the car, and it had to me just last Friday. I fixed them both times the same exact way.

If your car reverses when you let out the clutch when in 1st, 2nd, or neutral and your reverse lights are still on, then that's probably what happened to your car.

Look at 1987RX7guy's post in the linked thread for the fix it.

It was supposed to have been when I had the clutch replaced. Also I forgot to mention when shifting into 2nd it was making a ***** ***** ***** noise. When I let off the gas and back on it it quit. I took it to someone to see what it was and they told me that it was the throwout bearing. I have a lifetime warranty on the clutch kit. What gets me is I probrably havent put 5k on it in the past 2 years when the clutch was replaced. I only have 117k on the car.

No its not doing that this time. Car is really getting to be a pain in the ***. I rarely drive it and when I do something always seems to break. Don't be suprised if you dont see it in the classifieds on here for around $2,000. I have had it for 8 years and have prob put 15 or 20k on it the whole time.
