Question Shifting Issues

I'm rebuilding an '87 NA RX7. Engine was blown and tranny was iffy. Swapped for an '88 base tranny and engine. Both worked well in other car so I saw no need to rebuild either. Dropped both into car with no problems. Put the shifter in and got all six gears. After approximately 5 days, had my buddy test the smoothness of the shifts while the car was off and could only get 1st and 2nd gear. The transmission will not shift over even into the neutral area to the right. Spring and detent are good that rides the bottom of the shift linkage. This is really racking my brain. Please help!

Nevermind. I read about the selective lock-out, I believe it's called, and had a look. it had broken off the end causing it to slide out of its hole just enough to catch the ridge locking it and the shifter all the way over into 1st and 2nd.
