shifter Problems

Ok, this is the story, I've been driving my car around all day and it's shifting normal and fine. I back into the driveway at my friend's house. I get out and he says he wants to see how my car shifts. He gets in with the car off and is shifting and all of the sudden the shifter goes clunk, and I was like, "what was that?" I turn on the car and I put it in 1st gear and it goes nowhere. I put it in 2nd, it goes nowhere again. I put it in neutral and it goes reverse. The shifter will not shift into 3rd, 4th, 5th, or reverse gears. I'm really lost and need this fixed. I took out the shifter and theres a J shaped clip thing, and the spot where the shifter goes in. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Tried it, but it did nothing. Thanks for your input though. The reverse light is on now all of the time, and my car can go nowhere but backwards. I really need desperate help. Thanks.

Since the clip is in place in the shifter housing, the problem is probably in the tranny itself. Was your friend shifting with the clutch out? Sounds like the shifter forks are bent/jambed inside.

Is that fixable? I hope so, I really don't have money for a new transmission.

Most anything is fxable, however with the questions your asking, you may be better off hitting the savlage yards and picking a good used tranny.

try taking out the shift lever thing... maybe its not turned right in there or he pulled that piece of plastic thing off the lever and its stopping something from moving. When doing tranny work a screw driver can get you into 1st.

seems like it might be easier to go to a junkyard and pick up a used tranny and swap it right in, instead of trying to take apart the old one and fix it. if u have to crack it open you're going to need to drop the tranny anyway. might as well buy a used one, swap it in, and fix the old one at ur leisure. oh, and smack your friend in the face when you see him.

Yeah, the problem is, I only have $75 right now, and I need to get it fixed. I already have the tranny out. I just haven't started taking it apart and changing the forks, so I wanted to see if I could get any help in doing it. I have to see what I can do. A new transmission is probably in the near future. Thanks for your input guys.

a used tranny is surprisingly cheap. i don't know about FCs, but for 240sx's u can get a used ka tranny for 100 bucks or so. if you don't have the money maybe you should ask your friend for some. he did, after all, effectively break your car.

My friend will give me some money, I need to find one near me. I don't want to get ripped off buying something off of someone here.
