Shifter all over the place

My newly purchased 89 t2 has a crappy shifting problem.

The shifter is loose as a goose and slops all over the place. Its pretty tough finding gears, and downshifting from 5th to 4th doesnt work unless I go from 5th to 3rd then to 4th. I can litterally move the shifter about 6 inches in all directions when I have the clutch pressed down.

Shifter bushings or (eek) something else?

Probably the bushings. Is it an after market shifter? I had one in my car and the previous owner didn't install it correctly and it was totally FUBAR.

It's most likely the bushings. It's a common thing on all RX-7's of this generation. Anyhow, just replace them and you'll be fine.

Looks like I'm completely missing this bushing:

Has anyone replaced just the bushing or does the whole thing need to be changed?
