shift knob whats the deal???

shift **** whats the deal???

I cant get the damn thing off is there some speacial way to take it off I thought it just screws off but my shifter its self is turning in the tranny and I dont want to mess anything up so how do I get it off???


(edit) Im trying to replace those worn out bushings

the damn thing wont buge I hear ppl talking about threads on the shifter but this thing is acting like its welded on just tell me if it screws off??

If it is turning in the tranny you have already messed somthing up. You need to get an ajustable wrench and put it on the part that is right under the shifter **** (it has two flat edges on it) hold on to it while you unscrew the shifter ****. And it uncsrews counterclockwise.

As for your shifter spinning in the tranny, you have broken the little peg that goes in a slot on the front side of the shifter, when you get the shifter out you will see what I am talking about.

put it in gear and try turning it. Also there is a place right below the **** that you can get a wrench on. If that piece is not there then it probably is glued/welded on.

when I took the shifter and I see fluid Im used to fwd so Is this right to see tranny fluid through the hole the shifter goes in???

Yes, you should see gear oil in there. And also putting it in gear won't make a difference, it will still spin if he has broken the steel peg off in the shifters box.
