Just started her up tonight. Got the engine streetported with high strength aviation seals a baffle plate, finger chopper controlled by Nordskog water temp gauge, ACT streetlyte flywheel, ACT extreme pressure plate with 6 puck unsprung clutch, 3rd gen oil pump, and I think that's about it.
Unfortunately mechanic suggested a 3rd gen OPR. What bad things will this cause if any? Will it be safe to go 500 miles and then do it when I change the oil?
Also for timing on a streetport, will stock timing be good for break in unti I have it professionally adjusted?

I'm running a FD OPR in my NA i just got running. There shouldnt be any problems except for possibly bursting the stock oil cooler lines. Mazdaspeed7 and a few other have had FD regs for awhile. The thing i would be more worried about is the FD oil pump, im pretty sure it has a passage too the rear pump rotor that previous engines didnt have, thus i dont think they are interchangable.
P.S. no smoking or ill effects yet, nor have i heard of any from thoose who have tried it.
