Question serious idle problem with my NA

First time posting and in need of help!

I was driving at low speed (1st gear) through a parking lot Thursday night. I went to up shift but when I let off the gas and pushed the clutch in the engine abruptly stalled. I restarted it but it instantly went to a very high idle (about 2250 rpm)and if the revs fell, like when I tried to move it, the engine would pop and the car would buck and shake. It won't run at all at the normal idle positions. I managed to drive it home
with very little power, and while spewing gas fumes out the exhaust. It wouldn't tolerate 5th gear and only pulled to about 55 in 4th gear.

When I got home I pulled the plugs and the front rotor lead plug was running very hot (by comparing spark plug appearance) while the others were fine. The tank was nearly full with 89 octane and a bottle of drygas. I had also driven the car without problems several times earlier in the day.

I'm not sure as to where the problem might be? Ignition, Fuel injection, rotor seal, ect. ect....? My BAC valve has been acting up recently (not reurning the car to low idle once warm), could this be the problem? The engine only needs to last a few more months while I ready a turbo swap.

This is my daily driver, or at least it was before the other day.

Thanks very much for your help!

That's a good place to start.

Turbonuts got a really good proceedure on cleaning them.

Turbonut:

Spary carb cleaner into BAC. Fill it up around the seal assembly. Let it sit for a while, clean it out, then check seal. If you can blow through tube and air leaks past the seal it's still leaking.

that discussion was located here:

and also possibly some more interesting info here:

Turbonut:

As stated before, eliminate the BAC to see if that's the problem. Either cut a gasket and place it between the BAC and manifold without the center cutout, or simply plug the end of the BAC so no air will enter. Then give it a try. If idle still high, not the BAC.
