I thought about pulling the radiator back a few inches so its more vertical and routing an intake in front of the radiator behind the grill. It'd be up enough that isn't directly in the grill opening and it wouldn't require any permanent cutting. I wont cut a huge hole in my engine bay until I'm sure I wont ever sell the car lol.

Why not try this instead? Use a tube type air-water IC but feed freon from the AC into where water normally feeds

'cause the stock AC isnt' strong enough. You'll cool the air by maybe 10 degrees fahrenheit and gain about 2HP. Gains from a huge A/C are small, but they exist. That's the short version of my huge shpiel.

i guess you mean my picture. keep in mind i did this for a total of 10 dollars and these pictures are obviously not the finsihed product. this is the only other one i have.

i can see making the hole bigger and adding padding would be a better idea as adrock said, but i'm just waiting for a little rust on the bare metal, then i will ospho and paint it and make the pipe physically connected to the sheet metal with a large hose clamp around the pipe and a bracket bolted to the car. crude, cheap, and effective. this is assuming i have time between 3 classes, my other project and work... lol

You guys needs to take a class in energy entropy...

anyone wanna comment on my idea about moving the radiator back for space to route the intake in front of it above the grill without having to cut any freaking holes?

That may get you about 1" or so before you start having stock clutch fan clearance issues. Now if you stood the radiator straight up like in the FB's, that would get you alot more space. but, you would need custom mounting brackets and a custom radiator.

the air right in front of the radiator isn't very cold unless you're at higher speeds, so it's going to heat soak and suck in hot air from all the heat exchangers up there from stops and low speeds. i've tested the air up there with a thermocouple while deciding on my intake setup.

you might also have fitment issues with the clutch fan and (unless you sealed off the sides) would make a gap where incoming air would just go around the radiator.

i don't know about horsepower... i would guess more along the lines of 5-10 based on a couple formulas. intake temp has very direct effect on power from what i've read and experienced.

there is also throttle response and heat soak to take into account. i was very pleased with the mod. if someone put my stock intake on overnight i would probably be able to tell.
