series question

this question has probably been answered before, but since i'm new here... well here it goes:

what are s1,s2,s3 etc? like "s4 fc3s". is that like the model years of the cars? the highest ive seen is a s5 and fc3s were in production for 5 years, right?

thanks to whoever answers this question.

the "s" in s1" etc.. stands for series.

its starts with the first gens, there are only s4 and s5 second gens.

I have for example a s3 "1984 -1985" 1st gen 1984
and a s5 "1989-1991" 2nd gen 1989
