I have an 87 GXL, and the engine serial code is E003183. How can I tell if it is the original 87 engine, or if it is a later FC engine? Thank you.

come on, someone must know something about this. also, which is a better pipe, Bonez silencer and down pipe, or the Racing Beat one? The Bonez is $160, and the RB is $290.

a later engine???

It would be next to impossible to tell if you had a later short block. But the NA S4 long block would have mechanical OMP, and a finned Dynamic surge tank, as easy to see differences.
