sensor/relay problem please help
there is a strange little sensor that is attached just below the oil filter housing it has one small black wire attached to it...last winter it broke off and the car wouldnt even start now the wire broke flush off from the sesor and i have nothing to crimp to...the car still runs but its rough as all hell ..backfires at high revs and between every gear ..total loss of power. what does this doodad control and is there a way to bypass it?? please leave me a p.m cause my mailbox thingy aint workin
Interesting...
There are two sesnors there, a temp sensor and an oil pressure sensor.
1) Temp sensor goes to the ECU. Right next (foreward) the Oil Filter pedastool.
2) Oil pressure sensor goes straight to the oil pres gauge (with a parellel stop at a capacitor) and the ECU doesn't know it even exists, let alone cares. This sensor is directly below the oil pressure sensor. If you broke this wire off you are going to have ONLY one symptom: oil pressure gauge will not work. No other problem will be related to this wire becoming disconnected. NONE.
If you have other issues, it is not related to the sensor below the oil pedastool.

Edit: If your oil pressure gauge doesn't work btw, run a wire from that sensor to the yellow/red wire on the driveside harness. Should fix your proble unless the wire is shorted or cut someplace else. The same wire does run parallel to a capacitor on the firewall.
The green wire in the picture above is my wiring fix for the gauge. The green wire leads to the yellow/red wire. Notice I neither had anything to crip to, I just wrapped a stripped wire around the sensor leak (very top of the nipple on the sensor.)

Re: sensor/relay problem please help
I just reread your post and you make it sound like you have an automatic tranny. If its high reving between shifts, then the tranny is slipping. It either needs oil or its going to die soon. Getting a 5spd will make life on your rx7 ten times easier... trust me.

it is a five speed transmission..i suppose i was a little unclear in the description there are numbers written on it 0.47/250 r97g g: . what i meant by the high rev was that when i reach around 4 grand before a shift it will backfire.. if i lightly let off the gas (to cruise 30 40 mph in 2nd or 3rd gear it pops really bad like a popcorn maker. between all shift unless i ride the clutch it backfires very loud. the car takes forever to get up to speed , i can get it up to 90 in 4th but if i try to shift into 5th i gradually loose power all the way down to 70 mph or so where it sputters so bad i have to shift back into 4th to keep it running. my oil pressure gauge seems to work but the pressure is high around 60 or so. i took the part to the mazda dealership and they could not find it in the schematic. the closest in looks to it was a condesor mounted on the transmission bellhousing . the numbers on that part didnt match this one . i looked at the pic they had on the computer it was in basically the same place but the way it mounted was sideways and this one was mounted upside down right under the oil filter housing. one service guy said it was a resistor for my radio but the radio works fine.
