Self installed engine started.....(pic)

I finally got the engine installed and everything connected. I started it up just a little while ago with no problems. Here are the symptoms....check engine light is on, idle stays up at 3500 RPM(not what I want on a new engine), and smoke is coming from the turbo/exhaust manifold area....it's not exhaust..the smoke kept coming even when the car was off..till it cooled off. Would the gasket sealant smoke pretty good. Also, I probably should'nt have started it with this problem, but I could'nt wait.....I can't seem to find where this vacuum hose connects to. It's connected to the vacuum piping and leads towards the turbo area.

Anybody know where this goes...or can help with the problems?

That hose appears to have went to either a) the middle nipple on the s5 turbo (the hard line that went to the wastegate, dont see it in the pic) or b) the vent line that used to go to the stock TID (its some emissions/pcv bullshit). From what I can tell you dont have your wastegate hooked up at all, and that's fine to sit there and idle it like that, even very light driving, but thats a quick way to screw up under boost (think very high boost) so you need to sort that out.

I generally dont screw around with the stock vacuum rack too much, and it looks like you retained it for some reason. BEst thing to do is get rid of all that, and have <10 vacuum lines to deal with then the whole system is SO simple to troubleshoot.

I'd like to get rid of that mess...but I don't want to get into that without knowing exactly what I'm doing. That pic was taken in between hooking things up...the wastegate is connected. I forgot to hook up the AFM connector..that took care of the check engine light and it seems to have taken care of the smoke from the engine but now the idle jumped up to 4500RPM and won't come down.....I'm at a lost..I have'nt tried the CAS or the idle adjust screw. I gave up for the night but I am looking for ideas on what to try.

Idle at 4500 huh...throttle or cruise cable too tight? Physical obstruction of the throttle linkages? Large as vacuum leak?

As for removing the mess, you do just that. Take it out, cap everything but the OMP system, FPR, boost sensor and BOV, (and aftermarket boost gauge if you have it) and you're done. I remove the BAC, acv, egr, etc. all at once too, make my blockoff plates with a diegrinder/cutoff wheel, drill, out of 1/8" aluminum sheet commonly available at machine shops or hardware stores.

Use 5/32" vacuum caps for the nipples, and use new 5/32" vacuum hose for what little is left. You'll need 2-3 splitters/tees for the stuff on the pass side of the motor (bov, etc.). Just run the OMP into the stock splitter, and run the big line back to the big nipple on the back of the dynamic chamber where it used to go. I do the TB mod at the same time. It is optional to leave on the coolant lines and thermowax, if you remove coolant lines then cap the nipples off at the block and water pump with 5/16" vacuum caps and small hoseclamps.

FOr holes in places like the stock IC, the p/s assist on the back of the dynamic chamber, the hole in the IC tube that used to go to the BAC, I usually block off with jb weld packed in tight and allowed to cure, but you can either use plates or vacuum caps for these too.

IT really isnt hard, and the car is so much easier to figure out/work on afterwards.

It almost sounds easy....almost. I'm thinking maybe I'll get K&D to do it for me....I assume I'll have to do this anyway in order to set up a stand alone. To think....I never planned to go this far...started with a DP and HKS intake.....from there all I heard was...."well now you need to get this to control that" and "you'll blow your engine if you don't get/do this"....oh the fun.

looks like it goes to the TID the crank case ventalation maybe?

I take that back i see you have it already installed, it looks like it maybe the secondariy crankcase vent, from the bottom of the oil filler tube, there should be 2 vacum lines comming off of it one from the top and the other from the bottom, either way that line needs VACCUM
