Seat covers for the FC

Ok so Ebay has a set of replacement leather seatcovers for the 91 vert on it. And since my vert no longer has the original seats in that pretty much bones me. ANYWAY.
Since i picked up a new set of Leather Seats for my87 TII today i thought i would send this company an email about geting some replacements for my old seats.
this is the message i got.

Dear AUGie,

Unfortunately, we don’t have the pattern for the Turbo Coupe interior as of yet. We plan on adding it as soon as we find a donor for the factory seat covers. Once the new pattern is available the full kit will retail for 579.00 + any options + shipping.

Thanks,
Eric

kinda pricey but it still might be a decent option.
I'm going to message him back about it.

Have you checked with your local automotive uphlostery shops? Might be a bit pricier, but you will be able to get the colors and patterns you want without having to pay for those 'extras'.

Isn't it just the headrests that are different? Maybe you could get the headrests redone locally.

We just got a group buy this winter from leatherseats.com for $499 a pair, redid my '88 vert, came out excellent.

I wound up doing it myself because in my area (NYC) most shops wanted $1,000 to do 2 seats.

Dunno about the diference in the headrest, but i think that it would be far more trouble then it is worth to get the replacement seats and work around the headrest part.

I am going to see how much it would be to get them redone locally when i go and talk to the guy about redoing my 'vert top.

Someone just needs to send eric a junk set of leather seat covers for:

1991 Coupe / Turbo
1988 Coupe / Turbo

This is how we got covers for the convertible.

Then we'd have reaplacement covers for all the various 2nd gen leather seats.

Well the GXL seat is the same as the vert (except the head rest), so its more like you just need to send a base model seat cover and a Turbo/88GTU/GTUs seat cover and GXL head rest.

That's exactly what I did, but when I got quotes of $900-$1200 I figured I'll do them myself. Here's 2 shots below, they look even better now once they got sat in and the weather warmed up plus I Lexol'ed then, most of the wrinkles you see came out.

Classic Soft Trim used to carry leather covers for both GXL and TII seats. You need to find you local distributor, it's on their site. As with all leather covers they are not cheap.

I had mine covered at a local shop,$550 for both with nice soft leather and exact copy, I am very pleased, I chose pebble grain leather at a little darker blue for the middle part instead of the perforated style., he even punched the holes for the Headrest speakers. very comfortable since he put extra foam on the parts that wear out faster(drivers side )

I guess I got to move to Texas to get a good deal!

Those come out excellent, I see a couple of wrinkles, did any come out after some use?

That's a hell of a deal! I may take a trip to TX to get my seats done down the road.

If leather costs that much...that means fabric would be less, right?!

I love the GXL seats. So comfortable.

Yeah that's close to what Eric @ leatherseats.com was quoting me. I was adding 2-toned upgrades though.

I'm also looking to get some embroidering work done. Local upholstry shops can get around profiting from embroidering trademark logos & names ... internet shops can't.

Ok so i was looking at the seat types and I know of the T2s seatsm, the GXL seats (verynice on the hinny) and of course the vert seats. But I've got a seats in my vert that arn't quite any of them. They are VERY similer to my T2 seats but they are rounded at the top of the insert. So what did this one come out of??

I took it back and made him remove the wrinkles, he was in a hurry and it ended up costing him more time than if he had done it right the first time, they get softer every time I sit my big *** in them...better than an easy chair. he added padding on the sides where the original padding broke down...I am pleased with the work and price.
