Screeching noise. possibly a bad pilot bearing!

I have a 88 GTU non turbo, great car good condition 150 mi. I have never had any major issues with the car, but the other day i stated noticing a screeching noise when i would put my car in 1st gear, or reverse. I stopped by Clutch Mart and the guy told me i had a pilot bearing going bad. Can i get some input on this. Much Appreciated.
