Safe to go to 7500rpms??

I have an 87 n/a and am wondering if its bad to take my car 500rpm past redline when I race?? I have a ported intake manifold and headers and get better trap speeds when I go to 7500rpm as opposed to 7000rpm redline. Are there any long term effects??

Thanks

Brief occasional spurts to 7500 should not pose major problems, but regular or prolonged periods over the redline can result in damage.

The biggest problem on the S4 cars going any length of time over the redline is the flywheel or in the case of an automatic tranny car the tranny itself.

If you have replaced the flywheel with a stronger lighter one, 7500 should not be unreasonable (other than the torque curve starts dropping back down at around 7500) again for occasional spurts, but it is less than optimal for the power curve.

hmm.. i dont think you should have any problems. The S5 is pretty much the same, but has an 8000 redline. I know the rotors on the S5's where lighter. Iv personally taken my S5 to almost 9000 but thats full out racing (not drag). But you do know you stop making power after 7000. Just check the diference from an s4 to s5, and see what allows the s5's to rev so high.

Lighter rotors and a 15% lighter flywheel

I take mine up to 7500rpm when racing. I also was a bit hesitent at first but havent had any problems yet. Otherwise I treat my motor like gold, let it warm up for like 2 mins (not really but I dont wanna say the real time in fear of criticism lol), let it cool down for about 10seconds at least and change oil every 2k miles. But yea, every now and then when racing, I dont think itwould cause problems.
