Safc Q's
Im at the point where I will be looking at a piggy back to control fuelling. Just curious is there a specific model of the SAFC that I should get. I know theres the regular SAFC blue screen and the new SAFC II that not too long ago came out. Anyone know what advantages or functions the newer version II has over the older one?

SAFC II can map out more points in the curve...and it has a couple sensors like knock or something. Basically, either will work fine, it is all about how much you want to spend.
Check the Apexi website, it will give you the most information.

how do you know if you got the safc II or not. Does it say on the box or what? Im not sure which one I bought. I thought they just stopped making the first model, and the only kind you can buy is the second version. Maybe Im wrong.

Im running the new safc II jgtc edition. It has a new knock monitoring feature. Physical difference is the rotary dial, and it has like alittle joy stick kinda thing in the middle of the dial that u, use to engage the functions.

The SAFCII has a few improvments over the older SAFC:
1) It has a knock sensor function that gives a Knock readout using the stock sensor. This is almost useless though based on experience in various cars...maybe it works in Hondas? (one car I haven't tried it in)
2) It has 8 adjusment points instead of the previous 6, this gives finer fuel control.
3) It has a rotary dial and joystick to adjust settings, much easier than the old one which had four arrow buttons
4) It has 2 memory locations so you can save 2 different fuel maps, the SAFC only has 1

Actually it has 12 different points to set the curve, versus 8 of the originial, it can also be adjusted in 200rpm increments whereas the previous model could only move by 500rpm increments. But remember ANY type of piggyback system is going to lie to the computer. That's why I think you should only buy a piggyback as a temporary fix. The only way to get acurate is to rechip your computer or go standalone. Standalone being the most preffered because you can adjust right after you do a mod.

You set the crossovers points for the different fuel mappage. You have a low throttle point and a high throttle point. If you are between the two the safc will average it out. I don't even mess with my lo map, simply worried about high throttle.

One more thing to think about is that your not limited by the number of points the SAFC has, but by the number the stock ECU has. The SAFC can have 100 but if the stock ECU only has 4 it does you no good. Standalone is the way to go, even for a stock turbo car. But that's just my opinion.
