SAFC Possibly junk?? AFM hitting 100%??
Seems as if my afm percentage will most definately hit 100% although I have not totally gone out of my way to do so.
This means that the stock massair sucks *** for metering a high volume of air, and in turn tells me the stock ECU blows goats.
Anyone agree or disagree?

So does the SAFC make the ECU see more than 100%??? Will the ECU except 100% +15% (from safc) for instance?
Or is 100% the absolute maximum?? Man this sux.
Should I be seeing 100% with just a turbo back exhaust, ported W/G and walbro fuel pump?
What if we wire our SAFC to do its modifications on the other sensor, I think its the pressure sensor?? not sure I dont have the paper in front of me.

yes, you will max out the afm. The ecu didnt suck when it was made, its just dated. Though i cant complain too much, i made almost 270 to the wheels on 9psi with a solid 12-1 afr across the board on the stock ecu. Its not bad for what it is.

Just clarifying that my car is a Turbo running 9-10 psi of boost. I hit 72% in first gear at about 6-7psi on my guage and I was only at 1/2 throttle so the car had quite a bit more airflow to catch up to.
I am really really starting to HATE the stock ecu and all those dinky wires wraped around my exhaust manifold. Its like a pack of french fries.
Runs good.

The S-afc Takes into account more then just flapper door motion to calculate % airflow readings.. Take your air filter off and push your door wide open, take a look at the readings your s-afc displays.. You prolly won't see it go beyond 10%...
Attach a multimeter to your AFM (as shown in the FSM to test AFM) and start opening the door.. you'll also notice that the resitance readings are not linear..
I would suggest you take a look at your s-afc setup settings.. My T2 maxed out at about 75% airflow running over 12 psi on the stock turbo.. the T04 hybrid I am now running showed up to 95% max airflow readings at 12 psi... I have verified these numbers with another T2 owner with a s-afc.. I would start to belive there is something wrong with your setup if you are seeing 100% readings..
Mind you, I am now running a wolf3d, so I don't really worry too much about the AFM nor s-afc readings

Hey, I don't know what is being read out on the S-AFC, but I can tell you that the stock AFM Definitely maxes out, and that it does so before 6000 rpm on my 87 TII. As far as the stock ECU goes, Mazda is aware that the stock AFM will max out. That is why the ECU switches to rpm based internal fuel and ignition maps for WOT. Fuel correction for boost is handled by the Fuel Pressure Regulator. So, despite how it may look, the stock ECU has everything well in hand. How the S-AFC interacts with all this, I can't say, I don't own one. Have fun!

Bumping this:
Any idea on when the stock AFM will max out powerwise? I've started to tune the car with the e-manage, and I'll post up the logs in excell format for other safc/e-manage users.
