well guys al most of you know i kinda blew a few seals in my motor.. and ive been looking for a new motor..

ive found myself a few choices here.

1. 87 targa with an s5 na
2. an 86 with an s4 automatic
3. a parts car here at one of the elcheapo carlots that runs like a champ but its alsoo an s5...

my concern here is.. i want an s5 motor but i dont know if it would work with my existing s4 tranny... what all would i need for this swap? any help would be appreciated guys

Get the S4 motor. Swap the manual flywheel onto the motor, and you're done.

You can't just bolt in a S5 motor and expect it to work. Series swaps are wiring hell. Don't bother.

well, while not exaclty wiring hell, it does involve taking off the front cover, and using all the S4 sensors and etc to make it run correctly.

rotary resurrection documents how this is done properly on his website.

That's the easier way, but you'd still end up doing custom work depending on which intake manifolds are used & you end up with 9.7:1 rotors with an ECU that was tuned for 9.4:1.

I was talking about a full series swap using all S5 parts & wiring it into the existing front harness. That's where the wiring fun comes in.
