S5 TurboII 13.75 @ 104 - how?

I took the TurboII to Lapeer dragway today (about 65 degrees outside by the way), and ran quite a few times.. ran a few sub-14 times, best was 13.7 @ 104. I was shocked that I ran that fast.. I was hoping to run like 13.99 or something (previous best was 14.1 @ 100, before I put on the cone filter).

Basically all I've got is a custom turbo-back single exhaust straight through to a crappy "silencer" (can't even call it a muffler". And also a cone filter (no cold air box).

Also I should note, the DSV is acting up, so it runs to about 6 lbs and stays there.

SO.. basically I ran 13.7 @ 104 on 6 lbs boost. That's not too bad.

Oh, and I've pulled out some miscellaneous weight stuff (nothing that should get me THAT low though..)

I've pulled:
Spare tire
Sound "carpeting" from back
Rear trunk separator thing (that piece that makes it as if you have a real "trunk")
Stock exhaust (pretty heavy) to the custom single exhaust (not AS heavy).

All that though, I'm really curious now as to what I'm putting to the ground.

Barwick 04-13-03 07:14 PM

Oh and Jim (Raptor13x) ran like 15.8 in his '85 12A with no performance mods (except his exhaust is custom (CRAPPY) from the thermal reactor type thingey back to a pretty quiet muffler).

J-Rat 04-13-03 07:18 PM

Thats a GREAT time!

rotary>piston 04-13-03 07:23 PM

I think you're just a good driver

gsracer 04-13-03 07:48 PM

ran a 13.8@104 ;)

gsracer 04-13-03 07:49 PM

heh great time

Barwick 04-13-03 07:55 PM

hm.. I need to gank off the air pump and I'd love to ditch the stock power steering rack, and put in an electric one or something..

dr0x 04-13-03 08:01 PM

With 104 traps you could probably get below 13.5 with a hard launch.

Rx-7Addict 04-13-03 08:16 PM

congrats..

that homebrewed turbo-back exhaust is prob. most of it. Probably added a good 50HP if not more

I would reccomend getting an SAFC and/or injectors

Very impressive times man!

Barwick 04-13-03 09:46 PM

yeah but it's only running 6 lbs boost.. that SHOULDN'T cause +50hp over stock.. something is WAY goofy in this car I think.. I'm gonna take it to the dyno I think, and also weigh it.

ZachSpazz 04-14-03 12:04 PM

Well, isn't the engine in your car a J-Spec? Perhaps it's ported out or has some tricks done to the inside.

I definately agree with this.

vosko 04-14-03 02:43 PM

very nice!

i ran 13.7 @ 100 MPH with my old TII @ 7psi with dp,mp,tid, act race clutch :)

gsracer 04-14-03 02:53 PM

vosko,

I remember an old thread when you had the tII and you pulled a sub 2.0 60' time on one run. What tires were you on? I remember it was a street tire of some sort...

vosko 04-14-03 03:07 PM

i did 1.92 60 FT on kumho ecta supra 712's on stock rims . i launch mad quick yo! :)

i am on the lookout for another 89-91 TII...

RX7withNitrous 04-14-03 03:57 PM

what are common 60ft times for modded TII's?

vosko 04-14-03 04:02 PM

2.00 is excellent for any car on street tires.....

RylAssassin 04-14-03 05:51 PM

isint stock times like 14.9 1/4. How in the hell did you cut a whole second off with just a exaust and intake?? Damn makes me wonder what i can pull. What is your car? s4? s5? stock engine? or Jspec as mentioned beofre

RX7withNitrous 04-14-03 05:55 PM

he said it was an s5 i want to know what i will run

RylAssassin 04-14-03 05:59 PM

Damn! those damn s5's i bet thats why too, i dont think us s4 ppl can get that low with such basic mods, but im sure with the correct driver itll be real close

gsracer 04-14-03 06:01 PM

err....see sig.

RylAssassin 04-14-03 06:12 PM

Hey i wasent serious, i still cant think of a good reason to why its that low, but hey im thrilled either way...

That's what I was wondering, if it could be that.. it sounds really cool at idle (with the crappy exhaust).. although a little loud for my tastes..

It's kidna like badadum badadum badadum..

von 04-14-03 06:38 PM

I bet he has a port job

Barwick 04-14-03 06:42 PM

Specs:
- White 1990 TurboII
- S5 J-spec engine imported from a guy in Canada ($1100 for engine and tranny SHIPPED.. good deal)
- Lightened, I'd guess maybe 100 lbs from stock, due to removal of stock exhaust (heavy) and put on the single turbo-back.
- Removed A/C & all stuff associated with it
- Removed sound deadening foam (not the hard stuff ON the metal, but the foam) from rear.
- Removed rear windshield wiper sprayer (wiper goes soon, doesn't work)
- Cone Filter
- That aformentioned ghetto 2.5" exhaust
- As far as I know it's a stock clutch, and I know it's stock flywheel
- Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's 225/50/R16 all around
- That's really about it.. I don't think the TB mod has been done or anything.. and like I said it runs to 6 lbs and really doesn't creep over that (the DSV is acting up, that's why it doesn't go to 8.. wonder what I'd run then if I had a MBC and it went up to 8 right away :) ) And it also bleeds off as I approach redline, going down to about 3 psi (I think) or so near redline.
New fuel filter & spark plugs, I dunno.. and Mobil 1 oil filter, heck I dunno.. and about a half a tank of gas.. 65 degree day.
By the way, the 60' times on those two 13.7 runs were like 2.091 and 2.065. This track has a real sticky starting line. A stock Z28 (stick I believe) ran like 13.5 there.

Barwick 04-14-03 06:49 PM

All right.. who's around the Detroit area? I know Chris Sanders is downriver of here, I know JimmyV13 is arond here too, along with Fox4Life and FreedS4.. but I don't know who of them can for sure identify a ported engine just by hearing it run.

Wait a minute.. Andy at Mitch's Auto can do it.. maybe I'll take it to him tomorrow. Yeah... THAT'S the ticket. I've got a caliper I need to take back to him for a core return anyhow.

vosko 04-14-03 07:05 PM

i have an idea. get some video of it ;)

gsracer 04-14-03 11:15 PM

1.93 on kuhmos is pretty hardcore. How did you launch it?

vosko 04-14-03 11:23 PM

1.929 ;)

did monster burnout. revved to 8000 rpm and dumped the clutch lol

madaz07 04-15-03 01:27 AM

what time do ya reckon id run with my mods and my car is running a bit better than when i got dynoed the dude did a shit job im just waiting till my FMIC is in before i get it tuned

vosko 04-15-03 09:35 AM

high 12's to mid 13's....

dumped!?!? was the clutch slipping? I don't see how else you could avoid doing a nice smoke show for those watching.

AW11Rkt 04-15-03 03:13 PM

Yea I can't dump my clutch out at anything over 3500 or I get mad wheel spin all the way thorugh the 330ft adn my car just has a cone filter and is N/A !

I pulled a 2.06 60 ft on one of my runs at a local streetrace type venew at the track . I missed 3rd though becuase my shifter bushings are shot to hell .

Some type of 215/60/14 tires .

the stock clutch lasted a while but my clutch master failed while i was racing and burnt it to hell. i put in a used act six puck race clutch and never had a problem afterwards. my car had tokico illumina's and eibach pro kit springs. i just kept playing with shock settings till i got it the way i wanted it....

it cost me the win but i went to old school track that was against a malibu... you should have seen their faces when i was doing monster burnouts and beating all the muscle cars with my little old TII :)

Mark'sMazda 04-15-03 03:25 PM

I am in the Detroit area, and had a street ported NA for a while.

Not that I think Vosko is a lier but, I would think launching that high in a modded t2 would just spin the shit out of the tires.

vosko 04-15-03 03:29 PM

i spun the tires but i got it to hook. i experimented alot with that car. i drag raced atleast twice a week. sometimes i even went racing three times a week!!! it went from dead and bone stock to dead and ran 13's in a matter of months ;)

vosko 04-15-03 03:30 PM

this is from englishtown after i put on the apexi n1 catback and its last drag race since the engine broke on that run :(

RX7withNitrous 04-15-03 03:51 PM

15.3?

vosko 04-15-03 04:03 PM

WOOPS

this one sorry. that was the first time i drag raced it

http://www.vosko.net/media/dragracing/t2blowup.wmv

this is the right one lol

Piranha 04-15-03 04:40 PM

I think it ran it because you got Nawwwssssssssss from TFATF!!!

Double Clutchin and not granny shiftin! yeah!!!!!

West TX RX-7 04-15-03 05:17 PM

What elevation was the track? A Cool day so that helped. Those 60' times were pretty good so that helped. I'd say a combination of cool air a sticky track and air density that day.

Good times!!!

goodspeed 04-15-03 05:46 PM

hmm..

Your jspec is either streetported or your boost gauge is off.

I know good driver has alot to do with it. But a stock s5 motor/turbo with a full exhaust and cone fitler only running 6psi would NEVER EVER run 13.7 @ 104. The full exhuast and intake would spike you over 11-12psi with is past fuel cut. A stock s5 runs 15.0 flats and stock it pulls more boost that 6psi.

My best guess is a port or maybe your boost gauge is wrong. I bet with a full exhaust and intake you could hit those times, just not @ 6psi.

I ran 14.5 with a dp, md, stock catback and a intake with a slipping clutch. I would've been into the 13's with just a good clutch, with a catback , I would of probably ran the same times ...around a 13.7 @ 10x

at any rate, kick ass times though....!!!!

Well it happened, I can scan the timeslips for you if you want, actually four of 'em sub 14 times..

I'm pretty sure the boost gauge is right on, because it boosts up to exactly 5.5 and sits there, and maybe creeps to 6 psi once in a while.

And if I was going over 8.whatever, it would have hit fuel cut before I put the FCD on, and it never did hit fuel cut.

I dunno, I'm gonna get it dynoed I think.

vosko 04-16-03 09:23 AM

you have nothing to prove you have timeslips. i just happened to have video of my last run the car ever made lol
