CA s5 Turbo Iron tolerances?

Hey guys i need a few opinions from more experience engine builders on my s5 turbo irons. I just pulled my motor apart today because a torrington bearing lodged between the spacer and bascally took the oil pump, bearings, and thrust plate with it. However my rotors and housings are mint. I just have a question about my irons.

Can someone clarify if i can use these irons? there seems to be an imprint of the rotor onto the iron. I dont know if it is caused by heat scorching or from rust. Ill post up the pictures.

^^ this is my intermediate plates which holds the front rotor.

^^ this is a picture of the bottom the same intermediate plate.

^^heres another one (you can see the apex of the rotor and its corner seal imprint..)

^here is my front plate..

Pretty much there are only imperfections in the front rotor irons. I will double check again tomorrow if there are anymore imperfections.

I also noticed bumpy (intake manifold like casting texture (bumpy texture) on the bottom of one of the irons (it is very small though like a ball point pen size.. Ill post better pictures tomorrow..

Can anyone help me out on wheter or not these irons can be reused? ..Im hoping it is just light surface rust but i really am not sure. (would lapping remove this imperfection?) Thanks for your time guys.

Ok so i found out the correct terminology is pitting. I have small spots of pitting in the bottom of one of the irons. Ill take more detailed pics tomorrow. Thank you everyone.

take a look at the FSM and clean those irons up and then check the tolerances with the tools the FSM states and compare that to whats in the book. The FSM should tell you how to check the tolerance and the factory limit before consideration of replacement.

This should give you a good idea as to what the operational condition is of these irons.

If there's pitting, then its probably going to have to either get lapped/resurfaced (and possibly get a new treatment of nitriding) or replacement.

measure step wear with a dial indicator on a magnetic base. on the s4 FSM it's page 1-42 which has the tolerances

I measured the wear on my iron and Everything is in good spec! Now i am just worried about the discoloration (i think its coolant damage..correct me if im wrong.).
Any more advice about testing my irons would be greatly appreciated (mostly pertaining to testing the discolored area thansk!)

Give those a quick cleanup with a Scotch Bright pad. The rotor imprint is from sitting, as moisture has caused a slight discolouration. It is really nothing to worry about as long as there aren't rust pits in the area.

Cool ill clean that up. I do have some slight pitting on my iron. Ill take detailed pics of the location. I also measured the pitting and its no more than .0005" deep. Thanks for the help everyone.. I probably would have junked these irons already. Can i possibly clean the iron faces with steel wool?

Don't use steel wool.

Pitting that small shouldn't be an issue. I've run with bigger pits.
