S5 Trans rebuild help

I'm trying to take apart my S5 trans. The FSB is fairly useless in this area. All I see is a exploded picture of a trans with each part numbered in the order they are removed. No other instructions. I can't remove the tailshaft housing. It looks to me like I need to remove the block on the shift rod that the end of the shift level ball fits into. It looks like that block needs to come off in order the remove the tailshaft housing. The block is held on with a drift pin. I can't drive the drift pin out because it doesn't appear that there is enough room for it to come out the opposite side. Is there a trick to removing the tailshaft housing?

Thanks

i ran into the same problem. i drilled it out and found another drift pin at lowes or in a bin at pep boys. the pin can barly fit out if you have it on the right angle (shifting it into the right gear) mine was just messed up from me beating on it. remember how that ball goes back in as the instructions suck on that too. also put trans fluid in the tailshaft housing when done...

i have a thread somewhere on here about this issue with pictures

Somewhere there is a writeup on pulling the spring pins that hold the exhaust ducts in the rotor housings. If the pin you're dealing with is the same type, that trick will help.
