S5 TII CPU Repair

See a new unit is @ $100, but just checking to see if anyone, anyplace does a repair on the CPU?

Last time we had the car out, September, the belt light went crazy, blinking, beeping, so put the
car away and haven't touched it until this morning, a couple checks, bad CPU.
Replaced the CPU with one from the 91 TII in the pole shed, good to go, but don't like to steal
anything from the 91, so I'll either get this one repaired, if available, or just purchase a new unit.
Thanks

Thanks, did see the thread, but not up my alley.
Guess I'll just purchase a new one and avoid the aggravation.

Had the car out yesterday, as stated above, first time since last September and everything
functioned as they should, and even had the A/C on to give it a workout.
Just an FYI-still the factory air, never serviced.

For what it's worth, recapping that CPU was one of my first ever soldering projects. It's pretty easy and straightforward. I need to rewrite my guide on it now that I've got more experience. A good way to watch someone solder is by watching a guy on Youtube called Voultar. He does old video game system modding and repair. He is great about showing good techniques in his videos. My worksmanship has greatly improved by watching his instruction.

As far as the CPU goes, I'm going to say with about 90% certainty that the big electrolytic capacitor at the top of the board has failed and probably taken a couple traces with it. As far as fixing vs buying new, that's up to you. Even if it is "new", the capacitors are all the same age, with a 20-25yr approx lifespan from date of manufacture. A new one would still be on borrowed time unless recapped prior to installation. If you aren't going to repair the old one, would you mind sending it to me? The rest of it is probably in pretty good condition and would make for a good guide. The ones I have been running in my car have been salvaged from junk cars in the elements and look a bit frankensteined.

No, I'm not going to repair the unit, so ordered the new unit yesterday and if you want the old unit,
just PM me.

Car was great Friday, but yesterday not so good, A/C and all accessories fine, but something wrong
with the engine. As the day progressed the car cut out more and more and by the time I arrived home
running at a steady speed one could feel the engine RPM fluctuating slightly, and idle not smooth.

Being an old guy, I detest working on cars anymore, but guess I'll drag myself up to the back garage
sometime this week and see if I can find anything, but if not, it'll sit there like it did the last 7 months
when the CPU died.

Guess I can't complain about a car that's 35 years old, and have not had many problems, but there's
not anyone close that works on the rotary.
