Question S5 T2 Swap... TPS not reading full range via palm pilot (rtek stg 2).

I dropped a s5 t2 into my 1st gen and I have the rtek stg 2 and when monitoring the TPS signal via the palm pilot, it changes between 4% and 95% with only about 20% throttle movement.
Far to sensitive...

The little sensor that doesn't spin is the one that makes the tps signal on the palm change... Shouldn't it be the sensor that spins that is the TPS or am I mistaken?

And with the throttle stop screw screwed all the way in it only goes down to 9% and then I move the throttle about 20% and the palm shows it at 95%...

Did I hook up a wire wrong?

that sounds like a narrow range signal

IIRC, the S5 ECU mainly (or entirely?) uses the full range TPS for OMP control. The narrow range TPS is still used to measure throttle input, so having the value top out near 100% before the throttle is fully open would be expected. This is how it works on my S4 Rtek 2.1, which of course only has the narrow range TPS input. Post in the Rtek section and ask if the S5 version is supposed to show a full range TPS sweep.

Based on Mazda's SAE paper about the S5 (which I recently acquired, PM me if interested) this is a widely-circulated myth. In fact, throttle position is not used at all for OMP calculations on the s5. Mazda specifically chose NOT to use throttle position as part of the calculation because it resulted in unnecessary oil consumption.

The SAE paper discusses a new control strategy for tip-in fuel (acceleration enrichment). The strategy appears to add a single asynchronous (batch fired, outside of the normal injector firing order). The fuel pulse is calculated in part by the rate of throttle opening. That type of tip-in fuel is used on most modern OEM systems. I suspect the full range TPS is used for the calculation, as well as for boost control. The FD service highlights document specifically says that the full range TPS is used for boost control.

The narrow range TPS is still used to measure throttle input, so having the value top out near 100% before the throttle is fully open would be expected. yes maybe the s5 Rtek still gives the narrow range reading. You can always check the voltage range down at the ECU.

I knew arghx would have some random paper with more detail on the S5 metering system. Good to know.
